Rockets cut down to 15; Reed, Butler gone

The Rockets got down to the 15 player roster limit on Monday by waiving forward Justin Reed in addition to the previously determined release of John Lucas III, Jackie Butler and Bob Sura.

None of the moves were unexpected. Sura had not played in the past two seasons while trying to come back from back and knee surgeries and has not been with the team this season. Reed had been acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves in the trade to acquire Mike James. Jackie Butler came over from San Antonio in the deal to get Luis Scola. The Rockets had agreed to seek a trade of Lucas in July, making it clear he would not be in their plans.

\"Was I worried, no, but not in the sense that there wasn't a possibility that I would be cut,\" Rockets forward Steve Novak said. \"When you play on a NBA team you understand that's part of the business. Seeing guys go like this (stinks). You go in the locker room, someone is not there, the nameplate is gone. It's no good if it's you, it's no good if it's someone else.

\"You hope it's not you, but you know someone is getting the call. It's a bad part of the business.\"

Buy out Doleac now and sign REED!!! He is sure to latch on somewhere...who needs a backup 3?

Dammit, poor J. Reed.

I have never been \"friends\" with another NBA player....

I hope someone signs him, he can contribute a bit off the bench in the right situation...

plus he's a great dude....

He's got to be good enough to play somewhere. He's a big, athletic wing with tons of energy. Call me crazy but The Daddy enjoyed seeing him on the court rather than Trenton \"The Liability\" Hassell.
