Carmelo apparently decided not to sign the extension that was offered to him. My guess is he sees the potential for a couple of super teams forming and he doesn't want to be locked down to a team that can't compete.

Note to Denver: We have SF's
Note(s) to Carmelo:
- Martell is like J.R. without the crazy
- Kevin Love is like Kenyon without the Lips on his neck
- Darko is like Nene with knees and a back
- Rubio means the team has a future

Dangit, you can't go around getting my hopes up like this!!!

With that said, I definitely think he's leaving Denver via FA, if he's not traded before that. Melo would rock on the Wolves.

Jefferson + Salary relief + Future Pick(s) + ??? + ??? + ???
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

The official trade would be:

Denver gets:
Jefferson
Brewer
Wes Johnson

Wolves get:
Carmelo
Kenyon (If you are rebuilding you don't pay him $17M to poison the new guys if you don't half to)

Can we give them Hollins too? He is rebuildable!

If not, I'd definitely do the trade above. How can you NOT?

If that's really all it took....

Honestly, even if he bolted, it's not like we'd be soooooooo worse off. We'd be way under the cap and my guess is that most other teams won't be.

I can't imagine we'd get away with that trade without forking over a draft pick. Although, given the fact that the absolute earliest it could be is 2014, maybe it's not so valuable.

Do we owe more than just the one first rounder to the Clippers?

To me the risk of him bolting means we can only sacrifice guys on the current roster and cap space. You never get full value for a star so a very good starter, a top rookie and a solid defensive stopper is a good haul.

Don't tell anyone but the one team that potentially could trump us is the Clippers. Shhhh.

Actually, we could trade them any future pick. All that we'd have to do is have them tell us who to draft, and then we trade them the player after we draft him.

If any of the talk PA or what he saw/read didn't cut the deal(Al+4+16+23) it's hard to believe we could offer them better. Maybe though never say never...

The difference is the timing. Denver wouldn't trade Melo as long as they thought he'd sign an extension. I think he was planning to sign the extension until he spoke with/read about LeBron and what he is up to.

Plus you can make a case that Brewer is better than 16+23.

Guys, guys.

I just ran into Kahn today at an "all you can eat" steak and lobster buffet (although when I asked him why he only filled up on bread and salad after paying for the buffet, he grinned, patted his stomach and said "well, it isn't really value if it's not compatible with my system!"). Anyway, I asked him about all these Carmelo rumors, to which he waved a hand and said:

"Why would we need Carmelo if we've already got Crunch? He leads the team in dunks, can hit the backwards half court shot and runs the floor with determination. I'm thinking he can fill our hole at small forward, and.. (he leaned in close and whispered here) ..we've already got him signed to a lifetime contract." He winked at me and I momentarily choked on my steak.

I started to ask him more about it but he got up and said he had to run, as he was taking his Porsche to the car dealership to trade it straight up for a Toyota Corolla. "Vastly underrated car!" he said with a smile and walked away, directly into a telephone pole.
