My initial reaction: DUNCAN?!?! What the F***. Love, Aldridge, Randolph, Ellis, and Nash should all be all-stars over him.

After spacing out thinking about it during the next 2 hours of night class: We have to remember that the COACHES are voting. They have a better point of view on who really is the best than any of us Joe Armchairs. They have to play against and gameplan against these guys. Think about it. When the coaches vote I bet some of them don't even look at the stats at all. What do they care about stats, they are more concerned with who has the most impact on the actual game and who they dread stopping/gameplanning against/trying to beat. Therefore, even though the stats don't show it at all, maybe Duncan really is one of the best 12 players in the West still. Picture Duncan & Love swapping teams this year. Do the Spurs have as many wins? Doubtfully. Do the Wolves have more wins? Probably. Think about it.

After watching the 1st half of the Lakers/Spurs game last night: Duncan sucks. Aldridge & Love really got screwed. Even Ellis, Z-Bo, and Nash got screwed.

Final Thoughts: If Stern picks Odom as YAO's reserve (due to LA bias) I will be livid. If he picks Nash I think it's wrong (completely different position, and a touch of lifetime acheivement spin to it). He needs to pick LA or Love, and honestly, probably LA. I really don't think Duncan deserved to make it, but I do think there is also some validity to the points I made above about the coaches perspective being strong.

That is a great NBA mind take on this situation. Howl.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Good points, but coaches: a) 90% of them are just 'tards so i dont expect much intelligence. I kind of stole that joke from Charles Barkley

b) Coaches and the league need to understand some balance. The NBA needs to realize it has more than 4 teams and do more to support it's mid/smaller market teams. Tim Duncan adds nothing fun or exciting to the ASG from the fan's end. Love does. These types of stories are what need to be featured in addition to revolving Heat/Spurs/Lakers/Celtic telecasts. This is why deep down I understand/somewhat support the Griffin pick and wouldnt be as upset is it were LMA who made it. It feels good knowing Griff will be the story of ASW vs Kobe or someone dumb.

I also believe this was one of Love's only chances to make the team.

Also, if Duncan is getting voted in for non statistical reasons involving subtle nuances a general fan can't see, then coaches shouldnt be conducting the vote. The purpose is to highlight individual achievement, not just watch a potpie of the latest TNT double header. The fact that Duncan is on this team is a travesty.

Bonk makes a really good point. If Duncan & Love swapped teams I think it's safe to say that the wolves would have more wins and the spurs would have less wins. When you look at it from this perspective, it's easy to see who the better player is because only winning matters, not stats.

Anyways, if Duncan hadn't made the AS game, I still think Monta and LMA were more deserving than Love.
