He'll make between $16.5-17.5M a year average for the next 4 years depending on incentives. Bad news for a precedent being set for Love. Good news for Gasol becoming very hard to sign.

Seems like a pretty big jinx to see one playoff victory and back up the truck to a guy.

Wow. :S

I figured they'd resign him, but I didn't see THIS coming. It wasn't a kneejerk reaction to winning one playoff game, because they've been talking about resigning him all season long.

Still... anyone that says K-Lav won't ask for an absolute max deal is crazy, by the way. Maybe we could sign Marc Gasol this off-season though? That would be nice.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Zach is one of the best PF in the game right now and the Grizz won't find a replacement if he leaves.
If they can stay with the players they have now and Rudy (how did they beat SA without him  ) comes back next year they will fight for the finals. The Lakers and Spurs are getting older and Oklahoma and Memphis could dominate for some years.

Well, that just shows that with a good management and smart draft choices you can improve.

Frivilous ownership. This was idiotic mere WEEKS away from the lockout/new CBA. The max could be tens of millions less in a matter of weeks. The only explanation is that Zach's agent threatened free agency unless his demand was met.

Love may ask for the max but I am not sure he gets it from anyone, while leading a 17 win team. Again, CW while you may WANT to think Love will 'demand' the max like some spoiled prince, truly the max idea has never really been on anyone's radar but your own. He doesn't deserve the max, end of story, and him getting it seems very far fetched this early on in his career. After 4 more years and more wins? Then, yes, probably. You are the only one who is gripping to the idea that Love is "for sure 100% guaranteed demanding the max."

This is Randolphs 2nd extension, which is worth noting. Memphis is also a playoff team playing without their best player (whom they also gave the max for absolutely no reason).

This has just as much to do with idiotic ownership as it does Randolph's value to the team.

Love thinks he is better than Z-Bo, so why would he not ask for more money? And since Love can't make as much money (because of the salary rules regarding how long they have both been in the league); it only makes sense he'd ask for the max. You are kidding yourself if you think he'll stay in MN for less than a max extension... regardless of what the CBA rules are when his contract comes due.

And no, I'm not the only one "talking about it."

We will just have to wait and see I guess!!!! (not starting this up again, but it's tempting  )

Either way, the new CBA will have a major impact on what Love can earn. We probably will not be seeing a $15 million annual price tag for KLav any time soon, even if he does get the max.

.....until I read your first sentence., and perhaps this will be shortlived...but where did you get the idea that Love thinks he is better than Randolph?

Just from some interview a while back when he was talking about all-stars and the AS game. And I don't believe he specifically said: "I am better than Zach Randolph", but you could just tell by the way he was talking that he thought he was better.

I'm guessing the reason for giving Gay the Max was to keep him. :) You don't think any of the other teams who cleared out money for the last offseason would have overpaid him? Gay signed before LeBron made his decision.

Yeah, it makes sense why they did it. If you remember, the Clippers and Nyets really wanted Gay (among other teams.)

The Wolves will have to do the same thing with K-Lav if we want to keep him...

The most interesting development about this whole thing is that paying Gasol becomes almost untenable with Gay and Randolph both on max contracts.

The Memphis thing is the Milwaukee thing all over again, or Detroit, etc. Why sign Lebron and Wade when you could sign Corey Maggette, John Salmons, and Michael Redd? Or "better" yet, Tayshaun Prince, Charlie Villanueva, and Richard Hamilton?

Memphis has more money committed to Gay and Randolph than either of those 2 teams have to any 2 guys. They are paying Gay and Randolph like they are Amare and Carmelo. Ridiculous.

Best yet, it sets Randolph up for his second (or is it 3rd?) round of being traded only for his massive expiring contract. It is possible that this will become a valuable commodity in the future post-CBA years as no one will be able to unload awful contracts for expirings like his... Or maybe it was just stupid.

Here's hoping that the Grizzlies trade us Gasol for Darko and Utah's #1 this year in an effort to get some return for him rather than lose him in free-agency. I bet MG and Ricky are tight.

Gay was an RFA. Memphis could have at least played the waiting game and matched an offer rather than jump the gun 12 hours into free agency. That's what I mean. He was going back no matter what unless another team frontloaded his contract by like $8 million and paid it out in deferred income. Memphis probably could have afforded that as well.

Just seemed too preemptive, like the ZBo extension. Not exactly a bonus point for 'team owners' heading into a lockout situation
