TOPIC: 15 year draft - Dream Team

15 year draft - Dream Team 5 years 3 months ago #7254

Hey all...I know I have ruffled some feathers...but I was thinking of an interesting topic to maybe get some positive howls around here...:)

Over the past 15 years...who would be your #1 draft pick??? If you wanted you could even give a top five players (no matter what the year, so you could chose 2 players from the same class)

So the years covered would be 1994 - 2007

Here is my first 5 picks:

#1 Kobe Bryant (SG)
#2 LeBron James (SF)
#3 Dwight Howard (C)
#4 Chris Paul (PG)
#5 Amare Stoudemire (PF)

Good thread idea... I'm game.

1) Lebron
2) KG
3) Kobe
4) Dwight Howard
5) Chris Paul or Dwayne Wade... hard to decide. Probably DWade.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

4. Allen Iverson
5. Kobe Bryant

Well I'm definately going for the best youngest players in the league.
I'm trying to build the after-spurs dynasty.

Ohhh...I thought he meant if you could draft anybody from the last 15 years AS A ROOKIE and have them for the body of their career. That's how I interpreted it. Like who were the best 10 picks of the last 15 years.

And now I understand why you guys picked the guys you did, as you must have interpreted the question as drafting them based on how they are RIGHT NOW.

KG4LVP - Did I take your question the wrong way?

I read it like you did BonK

1. LeBron (SF)
2. Kobe (SG)
3. Duncan (C)
4. KG (PF)
5. Steve Nash (PG)

I interpreted the question as drafting guys as a rookie also and doing so to put together a team. The struggle I had was with Kobe and LeBron on the same team, but I didn't think you could have a Dream team without either one of them.

I came to a starteling realization while making this list that I saw Chris Paul play probably 30 times in college and maybe once in the pro's.

Because DHo is big, ripped, exciting, and studly. Duncan is boring and ugly, (yet fundamentally sound.)

I got an interesting take on this... what does your lineup look like with NO use of foresight regarding the player's career? Aka, you have to pick your top 5 based on what they did before they got drafted. So, in regards to this, someone like KG or Kobe could have an equal chance at being a bust as to becoming a star. Here's mine:

1. Tim Duncan
2. Carmelo Anthony
3. Grant Hill
4. Lebron
5. Greg Oden

AI - head and shoulders above the others in terms of my personal expectations
LeBron
Carmelo
Joe Smith
Kevin Durant

I'll admit that I thought Tim Duncan was going to be a stiff. If this list went back a few more years Shaq and Larry Johnson would my 1 and 2.

Agreed. I'd probably add Alonzo Mourning to that too if it went back further.

I forgot about AI lol. He should have probably went in somewhere.

I think by those standards Grant Hill would've been my #1. Going back a couple more years I might have taken CWebb #1 on this list.

Off topic yet somewhat on topic. A memory I have from the Shaq, Laettner, Zo draft... I remember reading in the Star Trib that the Wolves would likely be getting Mourning in the draft. I had only a vague idea of who he was. I was bumbed about missing on the superstars Shaq and Laettner (keep in mind that I was in the grips of dedicating 3 hours a day to working a last second turn around jumper on my nerf hoop (at that point I considered Kentucky the villians... who knew)). Then after a week of reading about Mourning and getting jazzed about him it came out that the Hornets were going to take him over Laettner... once again I was bumbed. This time I was right to be. The trials and tribulations of a 10 year old.
