Figured this should probably have it's own thread to keep it out of the huge FA thread in the Wolves forum.

I'm also glad the Lakers didn't get Paul, although I don't agree it would have made them a ton better because of what they gave up. See here:

The NBA does what’s best for the Lakers but not best for the league

So now the Hornets are gonna lose CP3 for nothing after the season is over? LOL nice one $tern. Are they going to be able to trade him somewhere else? Will it get rejected AGAIN?

Odom is pissed. He's not gonna show up to camp.

Scola and Kevin Martin aren't happy... and understandably so.

What does management say to all the players there were supposed to be in the trade? As WW said, what a clusterfyck. :S
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Well my guess is that the Lake show had something legit up their sleeve for another big body or two, making it even better for them. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the Lakers screwed though, so this is all fine. If we have to sacrifice the Rockets and Hornets to get Pau and Odom to start a riot then that's fine.

But when normal teams are about to make a big trade, the GM always runs it by the owner first. Why is this any different? The 29 owners own the Hornets, and the basically everyone besides the teams involved didn't like the trade.

And of course, there is tons of reading material today regarding it.

From Bloguin's resident Lakers blog: [expletive deleted] David Stern

Apparently all three teams are appealing the cancelled trade: Teams still pushing for Paul trade

The NBA turns Chris Paul deal into disaster

From the Houston Chronicle writer Johnathan Feigan: Taking a deal from done to dead, David Stern steps in, stabs Rockets, others in the back

Real GM usually has solid articles: Overvaluing Point Guard Play Hits Apex With Vetoed Trade

As usual, Ken Berger hits the nail on the head: Nixed Paul deal makes NBA look like second-rate bush league

And then Simmons rips Stern in his daily NBA article, and on TV:

I guess if the cancelled trade means that the Lakers didn't get CP3 and Howard, then it's really really really really awesome. :silly: :woohoo:

Hmmmm, I guess that's a fair point.

Is Kurt Rambis working for ESPN now? He's talking about the CP3 trade and sounds like a moron.

Yes he is, Roundhouse. Guarantee he's suggesting that if the Lakers hold onto Odom and Gasol that the key to another championship is to work on their weaknesses. Have Gasol work on his first step from the wing while they run the offensive through Odom on the inside.

I actually thought the rockets were the only ones getting boned. But then again I consider Paul damaged goods with his past injures.

Yea the Rockets are getting screwed in that deal. The Rockets willingly screwing themselves over is the only reason the Lakers don't have to give up Bynum. The trade is actually decent for the Hornets from a talent standpoint, but if they are rebuilding, why would they want Odom and Scola? Both are over 30 years old and highly paid. This whole trade is pretty shady.

But Scola is only like 31 years old. And he's one of the most efficient/best scoring big men in the league. And he has not nearly very much wear and tear on his body since he played in Europe all those years, as they have less games than the NBA.

Odom is easily tradeable. He could help any contender and the last year of his contract is only like $2 million dollars guaranteed or something. They could trade him for assets to rebuild.

But Andrew Bynum is only 24 years old. 7 years younger than Scola and a top 5 center when healthy.

I always forget that. Probably the 2nd best when he's healthy. If he wasn't a dirty asshole I'd hope he fulfilled his potential. Hope not. I'd rather Oden get healthy than him.

But $tern needs the Lakers to keep Bynum. Then CP3 goes to the Fakers and before the Trade Deadline, he's got Bynum looking like one of the best players in the history of the NBA. And it's still early at that point, so Bynum isn't injured yet. Then $tern makes the Magic trade Howard to the Lakers for Bynum plus a crappy draft pick in like 2016 (or something.)

:(
