Because what I am trying to say is that there are 2 kinds of lazy. One ought to know better, and the other thinks it knows better but doesn't and never had a chance.
Your words remind me of my comparison between stupid people and ignorant people:
Ignorant people never learned. Doesn't mean they can't. Maybe they just never had the opportunity. Given that opportunity, they just might choose to learn.
Stupid people are just stupid. Even if given the opportunity to learn, they don't choose to, or they just are incapable. Unfortunately, with most stupid people, it's the latter.
So, which one do you think Wes is?
Well, I don't think this is a matter per se of stupid vs. ignorant, but maybe ignorant and showing an honest effort to learn but taking a long time (Wes) vs. ignorant and sometimes seems to think he knows better (Beasley). Neither is good, but one at least shows an attitude like he wants to follow along. He's just the slow (but ultimately talented) kid in the classroom.
For what it's worth, Wes has 3 months of competent NBA coaching and he's showing signs of competency, although with him it's always 2 steps forward 1 step back.
I stopped looking at him like a 2nd year high lotto pick and look at him like a late lotto pick in his rookie year. Last year was regression due to the poisonous atmosphere and bawful coaching.
If you look at him as a late lotto pick, you see a sort of wing version of Tolliver in the making, someone who has no business starting but someone who is not necessarily ruined beyond repair.
