I think it's because Beasley makes absolutely inexcusable lapses on defense, and shoots terrible shots when he's not playing well. That and maybe some immaturity on the bench would be my guess.

Wes, for all his failures, usually fails in execution or in understanding of where to be, not in effort or paying attention. While he is obviously not half the player Beasley is right now, those failures are less maddening to a coach from where I sit. He might make a bonehead play but it's not a lazy bonehead play in other words. And I just talked myself out of Jafail McGee ever being able to play under a coach like Adelman, ever.

P.S. Did you all read the article on Javale's "little league mom"? Apparently she coached his AAU team, sits behind the bench every game, and has both herself and Javale convinced that she knows more about hoops than his coach. Sheesh.

Cognitive dissonance at its best with you and Roundhouse...

No we said the same thing man. I just didn't read his before I wrote mine. Basically I absolutely agree with everything RH said on Beasley. I do think that when Beas is rolling we ought to give him a bit more leash because his focus comes and goes.

I absolutely disagree.

Wes never even breaks a sweat.

I'm still trying to figure out what is going on with Beasley? He averaged 19 pts/gm last season and he is barely over half that this season. Is it that he can't accept coming off the bench or what?

(See where Fisher signed with OKC? Maybe he'll get that 6th ring.)

I can't argue with that. But I still feel like he is less lazy and more unaware, if that makes sense.

Had to laugh at that one! Unfortunately, it does make sense. Could bring up a whole argument as to which is the worst shortcoming.

Didn't read all these new posts... too many to comprehend.

Beasley = high

Wes = goodbye
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Amnesty Wes. At least Darko is fun to watch on the bench and in videos of practice. Plus, only one is likely on his way to being 'made', Serbian mafia style. Even more important, I think Pek likes Darko.

Nobody likes Wes.

Wolfenstein - cognitive dissonance among the both of you, justifying what you'd like to think.

Under your theory, what do you feel are the dissonant notions at work?

Because what I am trying to say is that there are 2 kinds of lazy. One ought to know better, and the other thinks it knows better but doesn't and never had a chance.

It's like when there's a kid who's rotten because his parents didn't do right by him, and a kid whose parents did everything they could but he still turned out rotten because he makes bad choices. Both may be redeemable but they are totally different animals.

All of these things are definitely gross oversimplifications of a much more complex dynamic, also.

Your words remind me of my comparison between stupid people and ignorant people:

Ignorant people never learned. Doesn't mean they can't. Maybe they just never had the opportunity. Given that opportunity, they just might choose to learn.

Stupid people are just stupid. Even if given the opportunity to learn, they don't choose to, or they just are incapable. Unfortunately, with most stupid people, it's the latter.

So, which one do you think Wes is?

Well, I don't think this is a matter per se of stupid vs. ignorant, but maybe ignorant and showing an honest effort to learn but taking a long time (Wes) vs. ignorant and sometimes seems to think he knows better (Beasley). Neither is good, but one at least shows an attitude like he wants to follow along. He's just the slow (but ultimately talented) kid in the classroom.

For what it's worth, Wes has 3 months of competent NBA coaching and he's showing signs of competency, although with him it's always 2 steps forward 1 step back.

I stopped looking at him like a 2nd year high lotto pick and look at him like a late lotto pick in his rookie year. Last year was regression due to the poisonous atmosphere and bawful coaching.

If you look at him as a late lotto pick, you see a sort of wing version of Tolliver in the making, someone who has no business starting but someone who is not necessarily ruined beyond repair.
