I'm rationalizing it, but also fully admitting I don't think Kahn could have done much better than this.

It was a great opportunity missed that would have more appeased to the "we have to do something" crowd. I fully agree with CW that Kahn will fail yet again this offseason, but I also think this move would not have been one that helped the team move towards elite status.

So, basically, this scenario is totally a pick your poison situation in my opinion. Both will sit out half of the next season with torn labias.

I'm crabby as well, but if we were all basing the success of next season on the acquisition of Trevor Ariza, then we are all dumb-f*cks. He would have been a nice player, but not the type of add that jettisons a team into a Western Contender. Do I have faith in Kahn to find a better option? Of course not!

While it sucks Kahn missed ANOTHER opportunity (and there WILL BE more), I have a steeping feeling spending $20 million on Okafor AND Ariza.... who are:

1. Glass figurines

2. In Okafor's case, still being overrated because he was ONCE a #2 pick and a stud in college 10 years ago

3. In Ariza's case, still being overrated from his playoff run with the Lakers in, like, 2008.

... probably wouldn't have been a tide-turning move.

Agreed, except that we wouldn't likely get anyone more useful with that $20M worth of space.

Correct.

Iggy ain't coming any time soon.

Looks like it's Beasley for Artest (I will applaud this) and Pek for Kevin Martin (I will NOT applaud this).

Or Pau. That's it.

Beasley for Artest, and then Miller + Webster for Martin, I really don't thin K-mart will be expensive at all. Rockets gotta pay the Dragon, may trade Lowry (anyway we can gain on the impending Lowery Scola for Pau deal?)

D-will and 18 for #2 ==> MKG. hmm

Pek
Love
Artest/MKG
K-mart
Rubio

Hmm anyway we can get a competant backup big as well? Wonder how Ibaka would look on this team...

What about D Will for J Smoove as a deal basis? Can Smoove play the 3? The Hawks have been spinning in the mud for centuries it seems.

NO fricking way Kahn has the stones to jettison Derrick Williams for MKG. He loves scoring too much and doesn't value the dirty work.

MKG is basically Iguodala without the improved jumpshot, without the big contract, and without the injury risk.

In my book that's (-1), (+1), (+1) for a total of Iggy+1. He's a defensive stopper and is relentless in attacking the glass. He would be the anti-Wes Johnson, attacking the basket non-stop and trying to ruthlessly dunk erything. Williams is a nice player and will have a solid career no doubt in my mind, but he isn't going to leapfrog Kevin Love any time soon which means his minutes in MN are limited.

This I also like. Atlanta would seem to be desperate to find a new face of the franchise, and Smoove's biggest knock is that he is highlight everything and consistent on D, but super inconsistent on O. Enter Mr. Love. Good coexistence I think.

Tell me more.

Wow I had no idea Okafor was such an iron man before this year. For some reason I thought he was hurt a lot. Wrong.

He is probably the prize in the deal for Washington. Ariza, while an upgrade over Wes, was always destined to be a low-impact move. Plus didn't Adelman write him off pretty quick in Hou?

Wizards new lineup:
PG - Wall
SG - Beal/Barnes
SF - Ariza
PF - Nene
C - Okafor
6th man - Wittman

My opinion on this has changed each minute. If Kahn does little, this might be the scapegoat move of the offseason.

Correct. If Kahn trades Williams for Cleveland or Charlotte's top pick, all is water under the bridge. If he does nothing then... eff this.

The Wizards should have held out for the #10 pick, they took on a ton of salary. Probably just trying to keep Wall/Nene/fanbase happy I suppose.

Why would Atlanta do that??? They could get so much more for him...

Regardless, I'd gladly give them D-Charge + #18 for STUD SMITH!
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Definitely was the case.

Too bad they still don't have much of a chance to do anything in the East...

They'll be watchable though, may even compete for a #8 seed in the shitty East if they pick up another good player somewhere.

It's a good deal for NO as well. They shed what they needed to. They are trying to build through the draft. This will help them keep salaries low and make sure they miss the playoffs.

It's a good short-term move for the Wiz, but those two players aren't getting them over the hump. They MIGHT make the playoffs with those players. Plus Wittman is the coach...If they do make the playoffs, they just miss out on a draft pick next year...

No clue if they would. Just an idea. He is a forgotten man in these discussions and was rumored last draft was he not?

I don't think Smoove is getting the Hawks a superstar trade package. He is certainly a reasonably realistic player to put on the list. He will require potentially the most to nab in trade of our targets I would think.

Didn't Stud Smith play the 3 his first several years in the league?

Hollinger is absolutely savaging Grunfeld over the move. Apparently only $13M of Rashard's contract is guaranteed for next year? So they could have waived him and saved something like $30M in 2 years.

I guess I see it, also Hollinger is saying Ariza is the worst shooter in the league. Did I miss that part too? I always thought Ariza was just poorly fit in a situation where he was asked to create his own shot.

Oh well.
