It is hard to know what to expect from the Mavs. The fact that Dirk has lost so many of the guys from the championship AND they've lost out on Deron and Dwight could mean he'll be in one of his funks.

I'm really hoping GS is still a year away. They'll be annoying for sure.
Mavs will be good. At least, a lot better than last year (imo.)

Kaman, Brand, JAE CROWDER, Mayo, Collison.

Much better than the guys they lost from last year's squad. I mean, 73 year old Jason Kidd? Odom, who didn't even play for them? Haywood??? Mahimini?!?!?

If you think Jason Kidd at 39 wasn't more impactful than Javale McGee at 24, I don't even know what to think.

It's like an old coach of mine said... 80% of basketball is what's between your ears. The other half is playing hard. :???

Granted, with the exception of about half a season last year it's been too painful to watch NBA games for a while now. I'm sure you guys watch a lot more so I'm probably completely wrong, but it feels like the regular season is essentially meaningless at this point. Even if by some bizarre circumstance LA and Miami don't make the finals, you can pick another 2 or 3 teams at most that realistically have a shot at winning it all.

We've reached a point where it almost seems like everything falls into place for certain big market teams (in nice temperate climates) to get whatever they need and then reload with more stars whenever they lose a piece. I could care less about watching one second of an LA versus Miami final; maybe if I was a true fan of the game I would enjoy great players playing hard but the whole rich get richer thing was already old years ago.

In a void, we could get excited about our offseason, but it feels like finding a quarter on the street while a rich guy wins the lottery. :S

Pretty good post, croc.

I think I am pretty much going to ignore last year's stats for most players. Many were off significantly, I felt, from their career numbers as compared to last season's stats. Then, you had an absolute plague of injuries - many to premier players. Let's give them all the full training camps before we decide that we should have paid more heed to last year.

Me? I can't wait to see the Lakers' new look!

I'm just wondering how the hell this is going to work. Kobe and Howard are 2 guys that have never really played with a true point guard before and usually require the ball in their hands to be effective. In Orlando, when Dwight doesn't get the ball in the post, he becomes disinterested and frustrated. Then on the other hand, Nash and Pau are a perfect combination for the pick and roll game. It's just going to be really interesting how this is all going to fit.

I hope it fails miserably. There is a small chance that it very well could.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."
