So College Wolf & I went to Tyus Jones' Apple Valley game v. arch rival Eastview on Friday night. A few thoughts:
I kind of expected insane athleticism, but that isn't really his game. Don't get me wrong, he is plenty athletic, but nothing like a Lebron in high school type of thing.
His handle is sick. He is always in control. He just kind of glides around the court ala D-Wade. He gets a lot of hangtime on his jumper, and has a very good looking jumper. He shot about 75% from three during lengthy warm-up shooting.
The way the team played, he didn't really dominate the ball. It was kind of like he did a real good job of blending in and controlling the game, without having to always have the ball in his hands. CW and I counted 8 first half assists, and at least 10 total. He also had 31 points and missed only 3-5 shots. Lots of his dimes were perfectly on point, flashy, and in tight spaces - not the type of assists that high schoolers usually make.
He seems real down to earth from the way he carried himself and what others around us were saying. He was very engaged with his teammates, and carried himself with a pleasant, controlled, and confident demeanor. Overall, I was impressed. It's too bad he isn't a few inches taller. Also, his D & rebounding left a lot to be desired, although he seemed to be playing at about 85% effort level, so I would be interested to see if he can step those aspects up when need be.
College Wolf, any other thoughts (not having to do with high school girls)?
