With approximately one month left in the NBA season, the MVP debate is really heating up, and very solid cases can be made for multiple players. Who is your pick for NBA MVP right now and why?

MVP has 2 criteria

1. Success of team

2. Individual player's contribution to that success

I would say Kobe Bryant

Ryan Gomes
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Agreed. It makes me sad when people argue vehemently for Kobe.

There is no need to explain that he is possibly the best basketball player but is his team going to be successful enough this year? I believe the verdict is still out after their big trade.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like Kobe but the team he has on the floor now is hard to argue with and he is the biggest piece to this team by far.

True. (By the way, none of this is personal or anything like that.)

One thing... switch Lebron and Kobe. Do the Lakers have the record or maybe even better? I say yes. Do the Cavs have a worse record with Kobe? I also say yes.

I've heard that Lebron/Kobe swap idea before, but I respectfully disagree. Kobe in the weak Eastern Conference would result in playoffs year after year. I think he's got enough of a MJ-like presence to force his teammates to perform better, similar to what he did this year to Bynum (with his off-season tirade). If Kobe was on that team, don't you think Drew Gooden would've played with a bit more of a mean streak? I think Lebron's too nice.

I think that their strengths work best on their current teams. Lebron's ability to get to the rim is great when his team has a weak frontcourt. Kobe's beautiful outside shot works best on a team with the best frontcourt in the league. I don't think either team would be better in a swap... although I'm sure the Lakers would do it in a heartbeat considering that Lebron is the new face of the league.

Oh, and the MVP? I would argue that if the Rockets end up with the #1 seed... you have to give it to Tracy McGrady. There's a pick out of left field!

Fair enough. I respect your solid, well thought out argument... even though we do not agree.

If the Rockets make it to the #1 seed I give coach of the year to Rick Adelman. He is the main reason for their remakable turnaround this year.

I hate the \"Kobe is an outspoken leader who makes his teammates better\" argument. That is such bull. The truth is he is selfish and was actually just ripping on teammates. Bynum has made huge strides this year, but who knows if Kobe ripping him was a factor in that or not.

My vote for Lebron has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with me not liking Kobe. Lebron's play speaks for itself, he is so far and beyond everyone else right now. If he doesn't win the MVP this year (he got robbed last year) I will denounce the NBA for the rest of my life.
