If your all-time favorite player from your favorite team left, would you follow the player or stay with the team?

First off, welcome to the forums!

When I was younger, I'd probably follow players more, especially when they left a favorite team.

But now I'm Vikings team all the way. The 49ers always have and always will be my second favorite team.

I still heart Randy Moss though.

If The Timberwolves got bought and moved to North Korea and they changed the name of the team to the Comrades and they replaced all the players with North Korean players and they replaced Crunch with a tank and instead of cheerleaders they had goose stepping marchers I would still cheer for them.

I think pretty much everyone on here follows the team over the players, otherwise we'd be on a Celtics forum.

I'd probably follow the Magic, I like the superfreak D Howard (always liked there jerseys too) not the Celtics!!! Anyways always TEAM first here!

Jerry Rice was my sports hero, but when he left the 49ers I stayed with them. I still cheered for Jerry and wanted the Raiders to win the Super Bowl when he was in it with them, but the Niners never lost my allegiance.

Twins will always be my fav baseball team, but I followed Ken Griffey Jr.'s career closely.

The Pacers are my fav NBA team and Miller never left (although had he gone ring chasing I probably would have had a similar scenario as with Jerry). I like the Wolves too, but my favorite players on their team weren't really worth the time to cheer for elsewhere.

Moral of the story: I will always follow my teams, but I'll also root for a select few players in the league as well (as long as they aren't playing my team or beating them in a wild card/division race).

Although I will say, for NHL I don't have a team and basically just follow players I like. Currently my favorite team is the Washington Capitals because Ovechkin is so awesome. Although on NHL 09 I used the Minnesota Wild as my main team (because my weird sports philosophy is when all else fails I just root for the team from Minnesota...except the Vikings).

I was also a huge Griffey Jr fan (who WASN'T amongst people our age?)

And yeah, I like the Capitals and Ovechkin as well. He's just sooooo amazing. You can't not like him (unless you're a Penguins fan haha.)

Because I know everyone cares so much, here are some other players I root for in sports:

NBA:
1. George Hill (only player to make the NBA from my Alma Mater, I had a class with him and talked to him a few times...cool dude)
2. Rodney Stuckey (we share last names)
3. Gordon Hayward (went to High School at Brownsburg which was about 5 minutes away from my hometown. Had we been closer in age I would have played him in basketball.)
4. Steve Nash (he's fun)

NFL:
1. Antwaan Randle-El (He made IU half decent for awhile...I'll never forget that)
2. Calvin Johnson (I played NCAA Football 08 and did the Road to the Heisman game type where you make yourself, do a tryout and then three random teams offer you a Scholarship. I made my 'Ryan Stuckey' a WR because if I had ever actually played football I would have played WR. One of the teams to draft me was Georgia Tech and I passed it to Calvin Johnson more than I did to myself. Is that wrong?)
3. Aaron Rodgers (I wanted the Niners to draft him SO BAD. Then they drafted Alex Smith. His successes make me look smart)
4. Chad Ochocinco (he's been compared to T.O. in a vanity sense, but his outbursts seem more like him trying to have fun than him being an arrogant jackass)

MLB:
1. Stephen Strasburg (head seems to be in the right place. It's nice to see talent spread out through the league. I'll stop liking him if he goes to a big market team of his own volition)

Yeah, personally speaking, I feel that the team is of more importance... A player doesn't make the team - they only contribute. Players come and go but a Team is forever!
