Or this is attempted/done by pretty much every team in the league.

I'd guess 'Yes' and I think this nothingness is being overblown anyways...
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Right. I'm not surprised that Billy B is just better at cheating than anyone else in the league...makes complete sense!

Saw that yesterday on ESPN.com.

My guess is that this is something along the lines of the Joe Smith scandal, a.k.a. everybody is doing it and one team just happened to get caught.

If they were actually doing it, I'd be surprised if they were the only ones. I guess I might be blinded cause they're my team, but I don't see them overtly cheating if they're the only ones doing it.

Kinda like Rodney Harrison and the HGH. I bet at least 60% of the league is on that stuff.

No kidding! From what I've read EVERYONE in the league does it so I'm surprised people are making such a big deal out of it. That's why all the coaches have their playcard over their mouths when calling plays.

I've also heard the players have those wristbands to prevent sign stealing as well. Every quarter they switch out cards in their wristbands so the same call won't correlate to the same play each quarter.

There is no way Mike Nolan (49ers head coach) is a cheater. His suits are way too snazzy. This is the work of a hoodie with cut-off sleeves wearing master-criminal.

No one on the 49er's would cheat at anything... Ever.

I agree. They are way too classy to cheat.

One comment I saw suggested that, as punishment for cheating, Billy B should be forced to wear a 3 piece suit to every game for the rest of the season!

NEW YORK -- After looking into claims a New England Patriots employee was videotaping signals by Jets coaches on New York's sideline during the season opener, the NFL has determined that the Patriots have violated rules governing the usage of video tape on sidelines, reports the NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Schefter also reports that the league plans on summoning New England coach Bill Belichick to its offices in New York this week to discuss the matter, and that possible punishment being considered by the NFL include fines, loss of draft picks and suspensions.

The investigation was first reported by ESPN.com, which said that NFL security confiscated a video camera and tape from a Patriots employee during New England's 38-14 victory Sunday. The employee was accused of aiming his camera at the Jets' defensive coaches, who were sending signals out to the players, sources told the Web site.

\"The rule is that no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game,\" the league said in a statement from spokesman Greg Aiello. \"Clubs have specifically been reminded in the past that the videotaping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals on the sidelines is prohibited.

\"We are looking into whether the Patriots violated this rule.\"

The story was first reported on the Web site of Jets Confidential, which said the Jets chief of security alerted NFL security about the issue during the game.

\"With anything along those lines, those are all league-related matters, and anything that deals with an issue like this or anything on a team-by-team basis, those all go to the league,\" coach Eric Mangini said in his news conference Monday.

When asked if the Jets had in fact notified the league, he said: \"It's all a league matter.\"

Patriots spokesman Stacey James declined comment. New England cornerback Ellis Hobbs said he was unaware of the controversy, and unwilling to believe his team had cheated.

\"We put too many hours in as individuals and a team to have to go out and cheat,\" he said. \"If it's true, obviously, we're in the wrong. But I'm standing behind my team, my coaches. I don't think we do that stuff.\"
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick apologized to his team on Wednesday and confirmed that he has spoken to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about his \"interpretation\" of league rules that ban videotaping of the opposing sideline.

Patriots under investigation for following rules, guidelines violations ...

It was not clear what Belichick was apologizing for, and the coach repeatedly refused to elaborate on a one-paragraph statement issued 10 minutes before a regularly scheduled news conference to discuss Sunday night's game against the San Diego Chargers.

\"At this point, we have not been notified of the league's ruling,\" Belichick said in a statement. \"Although it remains a league matter, I want to apologize to everyone who has been affected, most of all ownership, staff and players. Following the league's decision, I will have further comment.\"

The statement said Belichick spoke with Goodell this week about a \"videotaping procedure\" during last Sunday's game and \"my interpretation of the rules.\"

After about 15 minutes discussing Sunday's game, Belichick was pressed harder on his \"interpretation of the rules,\" and the coach walked out of the room.

NFL security confiscated a video camera and tape from a Patriots employee during New England's 38-14 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. The employee was accused of aiming his camera at the Jets' defensive coaches as they signaled to players on the field.

The NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday night that Goodell has determined the Patriots violated league rules that ban videotaping of defensive signals.

Schefter also reported that the league could be considering fines, suspensions, loss of draft picks and possibly all three together as punishment for the Patriots.

Asked repeatedly to elaborate on the statement and the effect it might have on his team, Belichick was left begging for football questions. But few in the media workroom had come to hear about San Diego.

\"Any questions about the Chargers?\" he pleaded in his standard other-things-to-do monotone. \"Want to talk about the football game? If not, I think that statement pretty much covers it.\"

It appeared that he might find no takers, before one reporter asked about defending against Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson.

The coach smiled.

\"Whatever happens out there Sunday night, out there on the field, that's where everybody will make their statement,\" he said.

1. Page 105 of the Game Operations manual says: \"No video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game.\" It later says: \"All video shooting locations must be enclosed on all sides with a roof overhead.\"

2. And, a memo from Ray Anderson, NFL head of football operations, to head coaches and GMs on Sept. 6, 2006 said: \"Video taping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent’s offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches’ booth, in the locker room, or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game.\"

Terrell Davis said the Patriots should be banned from the playoffs for 2 seasons! What an idiot! Yeah, make all the fans suffer for something they had nothing to do with, ruin the NFL for the entire upper left corner of the country, as well as remove a major part of the 3-way battle in the AFC that's the #1 story this season. That's going to happen over a videotape that would give a minor advantage at best.

And this is coming the guy who's Super Bowl Broncos cheated the salary cap!

Wow. That's absolutely ridiculous that he said that!!!

Does anyone truly believe that any significant advantage was given? The Patriots still would have pwned the Jets anyways...

I don't think anyone was questioning that. Turns out the fines were $250,000 for the Owner and $500,000 for Billy B and a conditional 1st round pick (if they make the playoffs). So, essentially a financial slap on the wrist considering the Patiots already had 2 1st rounders this year.
