Is anyone watching these gymnastics?

Last night the Chinese girl falls on vault and still medals somehow.

Tonight Nastia Luikin and He Kexin get the same score despite Luikin doing better (countries that have a participant in the event are disallowed from having a judge, meaning countries with the most experienced judges such as China, US, Romania, etc can't participate leaving 4 of the 6 judges from countries that have never had a medalist in gymnastics ever) and sadly Australia messing it up.

But anyways, instead of giving dual gold medals, they have some retarded computer tiebreaker that no one understands and the people who do understand it says it makes no sense. So of course the 13 year old Chinese girl wins the tiebreaker.

The Olympics are so frustrating.

I found a little tidbit about the age controversy that I thought was hilarious:

\"According to some official records, gymnast He Kexin was listed as 13 in November, but now is listed as 16. At a news conference, a reporter asked her how she had celebrated her 15th birthday.

She paused for a long time before replying it had been \"an ordinary day\" with her teammates, the Tribune reported.\"

Well no shit. I wouldn't put my name on there either, who knows what will happen to them. Anything they ever write for the rest of their life as well as their employers publication would probably be banned by the Great Firewall of China.

underage gymnasts
dalai lama
occupied Tibet
some school in China that blew up because they made the kids illegally produce fireworks
Yao Ming is overrated
Japan makes better cars

Now this thread is probably on the Chinese blacklist.

Lashing out at everything Chinese is narrow minded at best. Yao Ming is not the Chinese government, he is an individual. I hope you do not have a problem with Chinese people. They have a name for that. If we are going to carry on intelligent debates with thoughful people from all around the world we need to keep our prejudices in a bottle.

I'm just making a point as to why someone in China publishing a story on underrage gymnasts would want to remain anonymous. I have nothing against Chinese people.

Nicely done. You are a great apprentice mmaland.

P.S. I completely agree with Roundhouse above. Chinese censorship/punishment is unbelievable and I wouldn't identify myself either.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

To begin with it seems that on August 15th according to the Daily Telegraph that the Chinese gynasts for the second time produced both passports and birth certificates for all of the Chinese Olympic gynasts this happened after the FIG (Federation Internationale Gynastique)(which is also under the patronage of the International Olympic Comittee) intervined and produced documentation filed by the Chinese last year with the D.O.B's corresponding to current documentation. Had the Chinese been under age they'd not have been able to compete in the World games last October which kinda questions why the Karolyi's only voiced their concerns after a loss and not when they met the same Chinese team at the world games.

I find this whole age thing hilarious after all during an interview with the NYT Martha Karolyi lobbied for the age restriction to be lifted all together.

The fact is that there is no hard proof that the Chinese have actually cheated in the gynastics they submitted all the required documentaion to the IOC(made up of many nationalities)to be frank the only involvement that the Chinese have with the Olympic games is the organisation of the actual games they have no infulence on rules and regulations.

I'd like to disagree with you Mmaland and say that as a professional dear Martha was overly arrogant when voicing her concerns about the Chinese team.
To be arrogant is to have an understanding that you are more important than or know more than other people, which both Karolyi's displayed during the team event.

As any sporting professional will know if there are any concerns regarding any sort of fowl play during a sporting event there are appropriate channels to follow - a coach or manager does not go off on a rant on international television after defeat only to later have to retract her statement.

For example when Ireland played Sctoland in the six nations rugby tournament it was thought that the Scotish players had originally decided to go out and target the younger weaker Irish players and attempt to injure them. One player had his neck stood on until he passed out. There was no intervention by the ref or linesmen during the match, when the Irish manager was asked to comment after the match (which Ireland won) he refused. After the tournament the Irish lodged a complaint after a investigation several Scotish players were found to have used targeting and unnecessecary force and were fined and received a match suspension. There is a huge difference between gynastics and rugby I know but managing and looking after the best interests of your team hold little difference.

Don't you find it a little odd that no other team involved in the event has complained or stood along side the Karolyi's?

This is getting like the Atlanta witch hunt which resulted in President Clinton going to Atlanta apologising to the victimised athlete and supporting them in their final race. I could log it but it's take an age and I am aware that my logs are getting to great lenght but if anybody wants me to go into detail I'll gladly fill ye in.

If we are to get ethical about fair play then we should look at the actual definition of \"fair play\":

1. Play to win

2. Play fair

3. Observe the Laws of the Game.

4. Respect opponents, teammates, referees, officials and spectators.

5. Accept defeat with dignity

6. Promote the interests of the sport.

7. Reject corruption, drugs, racism, violence and other dangers within the sport.

8. Help others to resist corrupting pressures.

9. Honour those who defend the sports good reputation.

Although you may consider the Chinese gynasts to have failed on these there is no actual hard proof where as there the Karolyi's have clearly failed on 5 and 6.

I'd like to remind Mmaland that serious offences such as cheating allegations and doping violations are resovled in a \"court room\" manner in the format of a hearing this applies to the majority of sports.

Luikin herself on August fourth gave an interview to the British Telegraph in which she commented that the Chinese were there biggest threat and that they would also have an extra advantage over them by being on home ground.

I do hope that I'm proven wrong but as somebody who beleives strongly in fair play I hope that I'm proven wrong when Karolyi goes through the propper channels although according to the European media Karolyi's own comittee have rejected her claims.

All I caught from the final day of gynastics was highlights Horton's bar was amazing I felt a little sorry that he didn't take the gold where as Johnson was just spectacular.

Looks like Ireland finally got on the medals board with a gaurantee of at least three bronze medals from their boxing team.

hnirian,

Boy I am in way over my head. How dare you contradict me with facts and research and well thought out arguements. We here at Twolves Blog are used to over reacting on half truths and inuendo.

I will stand down to your logic and be patient with my suspicions and trust the right things will be done through the right channels.

If I am right though you owe me a shot.

Hey Mmaland I didn't mean to offend you!

If you are right I'll buy you a bottle... of whatever you want but you'll have to wait until November as that'll be the next time I'm state side and I'll most likely have to mail it to you.

They're not well thought arugments they are just valid points I am a sports nut, I've played various team sports at national and international leveL, through college I wrote on sports for one of the cities papers. I am now on a career break and working in Sports and sports medicine I have an interest especially in sportsmanship and rules which all stated back in 1996 during the games in Atlanta.

Mmaland both documents are from the same author have the same content bar the correct age most news paper articles carry the name of the journalist date of publication etc.

I'm not sure if I've posted those images correctly.

As for the judging the other day in the uneven bars the rules changed after 1996 and are set to change again after these Olympics.
The tiebreak went to two levels to determine the gold-medal winner. The first tiebreak took the average of the four counting B (execution) jury deductions, which meant that the highest and lowest deductions were dropped and the remaining four were averaged. Liukin and He averaged the same deduction, a 0.975, so there was a second tiebreak level. In the second level, the three lowest of the four counting B (execution) jury deductions were averaged. Liukin averaged a 0.966 with He averaging a 0.933, so because He’s deduction average was lower, she was awarded the gold medal.

Again its not solely Chinese officials who over see the scoring so I really don't think there is any conspiracy involved.

From the beginning I've been against China holding the Olympic's their Olympic motto \"One world, one dream\" is a heap of s*** if you ask me. Roundhouse forgot to mention the woman who had her house destroyed to make room for the birds nest when she complained about this on the internet and to the world media she was sent to a \"re education\" school, then there was the one child per household rule resulting in hundreds of thousands of baby girls being abandoned and left in orphanages because the family wanted a boy. Then there are the silly rules associated to the games Competitors are banned from importing their own food into the athletes' village under rules drawn up by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that are designed to protect the rights of sponsors such as McDonald's and to police the use of illegal substances.

I was a little disappointed that we didn't have a repeat of the 1980 Olympic's where over half of the countries that were to compete decided to boycott the games. I suppose politics has played a part in Olympic's since the first official games in 776 to the founding of the international committee in 1894 it's all about money and power London have set aside £9 billion ($16.7 billion) but yet they don't have the money for the education or health systems. Somehow I don't think there'll be much of a profit made on $16.7 billion.

Again I didn't mean to offend anyone.

You can either copy and paste the article into the message box... or simply get the URL and post it into the message box.

Then, highligh the URL you pasted and click the \"URL\" button and it will create a link back to the article for everyone to click on.

That make sense?

You don't insult me. I speak with sarcasm. You are a sports nut because you did your homework. I admire your passion for the arguement. You did far more research than I so I caved. I tip my hat to you!:) I hope you continue to post.

Cheers for that,
Makes plenty of sense only its saying that the pixel resolution is beyond what the site allows. I've managed to save it from the Irish Independent which is a registered users paper (rip off, as costs twice as much as if I were to buy it off the stand!) I'll try and see if I can adjust the resolution if not I'll post the documents on our team websites news section post the link and yee can check it out from there.

The New York Times originally claimed to have this evidence but have since removed the posting from their site.

Off this morning so woke early 05:30 to catch today's live sporting events!

Never mind the Chinese for the second Olympic's in a row my Irish equestrian team have been caught \"cheating\" the entire team has been suspended for using a substance called 'Equi-block' which works like Tiger baslm only its for horses it contains a substance called capsaicin. Funny thing is that the Irish horses provided a sample on arrival to Hong Kong all of which were negative Stupid riders its bad enough one been caught in Athens (and losing his medal) but for four to be caught well what can I say.

No news on the \"Cheating China\" front today, British Marathon swimmers (gold and silver medal winners) have accused a German swimmer of pulling their ankles preventing them from winning the race. 25 swimmers and no lanes, boats going along side to monitor swimmers as to ensure there is no cheating its the first time marathon swimming has happened in the games maye they need to think it out better.

Way to go to the USA Women's football team, Solo seems to have shown her worth after being benched in last years world cup. Solo made the best close range saves I saw in the entire tournament in the 72nd minute when Marta worked herself free on the left side of the penalty area and fired a hard left-footed shot from close range that the US goalkeeper just got a right hand on before the ball was cleared away.

On a non Olympic/sporting related issue I had to visit a hospital in Lyon France today whilst during the proceedure I was left alone so I decided that after my 5:30 start I'd have a doze when I awoke my mobile phone and wallet were gone - I naturally went beserk I don't have private health care to be robbed whilst in hospital. Looking back over the security footage it showed a porter who was not rostered to be in the area I was treated in leaving, when they searched his locker they found my stuff. I'm still furious \"Salaud!\"
