Frankly, I think they do nothing because of their burying their head in the sand for so long. It would be difficult. Maybe make a few of the offenders scape goats like Bonds and Clemens.
But, if they want the records to mean anything and integrity restored, they need to do something as a consequence.
I agree they need to do something, but I honestly have no idea what the answer might be. They definitely waited too long to address this issue.
Epic Fail.
A problem is that these leaked failures were part of a pilot program that was always supposed to be private and not punishable. The leaking is a result of the FBI seizing those documents and agents slowly letting stuff slip.
It would be pretty hard for MLB to use those results to ban records after the original deal. It is also hard to ban just the people who failed in the real program because then you leave behind the obvious offenders like Alex and Barry.
