Yes, a slippery slope but if you do not the other side of it is no one takes the record or the sport seriously. It loses any kind of integrity.

There are many instances of MLB taking a hard stand such as Rose and Shoeless Joe.
If you are caught cheating, you should face a consequence for having done so. Are there people who get away with it, yes there are. But, how can you then just say because of that no one should face consequences?

So what should they do? Ban half the league? How can you even remove that many statistics? It would be impossible and not make sense. And where does it stop? First time offenders serve their suspension, but some players should banned and all their statistics removed? It's not even logistical...
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

I cannot begin to answer it. But, failure to address it will mean it continues behind closed doors. That is one problem with MLB, they have had a keep it behind closed doors approach to this it has led to this issue.
Frankly, I think they do nothing because of their burying their head in the sand for so long. It would be difficult. Maybe make a few of the offenders scape goats like Bonds and Clemens.
But, if they want the records to mean anything and integrity restored, they need to do something as a consequence.

I agree they need to do something, but I honestly have no idea what the answer might be. They definitely waited too long to address this issue.

Epic Fail.

A problem is that these leaked failures were part of a pilot program that was always supposed to be private and not punishable. The leaking is a result of the FBI seizing those documents and agents slowly letting stuff slip.

It would be pretty hard for MLB to use those results to ban records after the original deal. It is also hard to ban just the people who failed in the real program because then you leave behind the obvious offenders like Alex and Barry.

Cheers to Roger Maris and his 61 HR's.

Just stating my opinion. I have no idea how to approach it.

Yes, the real HR record occurred prior to McGwire in my book.
