I've been watching most of these World Cup games (and missing most of the NBA Finals games:() since I work in the evenings and have my mornings and afternoons open.
A few observations after the first round of pool play:
-The Australia/Germany game was brutal. Those
Socceroos really took a solid kick to the pouch in that one. But the Germans are crazy good even without Ballack. I rediscover my German ancestry every four years because of those guys.
-North Korea looked surprisingly decent during the 2-1 loss to Brazil, and the stories the ESPN commentators tell about
Kim Jong Il are nuts.
+Like he has an invisible communication device that is in the ear of the coach so he can talk to him during games (I'm guessing it doesn't exist at all, but he just wants to take credit for making an important decision in case the team actually pulls out a win).
+Or the story that the North Korean fans in the crowd aren't actually North Koreans, but paid Chinese actors hand-picked by the North Korean government to act like North Koreans.
-I want to change my name to
Tshabalala in honor of the South African midfielder.
-
Christiano Ronaldo is the Kobe Bryant of soccer.
-
Spain is going to be fine, despite the loss to the Swiss.
-
Drogba looks like he can be effective with his broken arm, which gives the Ivory Coast some hope in advancing out of the Group of Death and excites the Chelsea fan in me.
-
Steven Gerrard cost England the win against the USA, not just Robert Green. Sure, Gerrard scored that goal in the first four minutes, but played like complete rubbish after that. Yeah, I said it CW.
Complete Rubbish!
