I am not sure about the US, but here in Australia it broadcast free to air (in fact it is protected by government statute). ESPN broadcast it for an Indian audience (where it is the biggest sport by a margin hard to describe; but that is another story altogether).
Cricket Australia run a subscription streaming service via it's website (cricket.com.au) and show short highlights on the home window.
It's a shame you can't watch whats on here now. It is the 5th day of the second test between Australia and India in Sydney. Australia finished the first innings 69 runs behind and batted well in difficult conditions to set India a total of 333 in 72 overs. Not a realistic target on this pitch, so India have to hang on to survive. This isn't a mismatch; both a strong teams but one has proved stronger. The beauty of cricket is that the narure of the contest can change. it can be a head to head with both teams in it for victory, or it can become a war of attrition. One team summoning the courage and tenacity to survive.
This is what this match has become. A hunt. And Australia are hunting India down.
