TOPIC: College Football Pick 'em!

College Football Pick 'em! 5 years 9 months ago #674

I know its gonna be week 3 pretty soon. But it's never too late to start playing college pick 'em!!!

Here are the games we can make our picks for this week if anyone wants to join in and post their picks to show their college knowledge. I'll try to highlight the good games, plus it'll make it a little tougher :)

Game 1: Arkansas at Alabama(-3)

Game 2: Iowa(-17.5) at Iowa State

Game 3: Ohio State(-4) at Washington

Game 4: Louisville at Kentucky(-7)

Spotlight Game: USC(-10) at Nebraska

We can do straight moneyline on take the spreads into account...whatever people want. I think the Spotlight game should be worth twice as much as the others (especially if we take lines)

Thoughts? I can keep a running total of everyone's score too if we want to be that serious.

Holla.

Well, I sure doesn't seem like anyone was interested in this one.

Here were my pick from last week in case anyone is interested.

Game 1: (TIE) Arkansas (Bama won by 3 in another thriller!)

Game 2: (WIN) Iowa State (Iowa State won 15-13)

Game 3: (LOSS) Washington (Soooo, Washington's not quite as good as I thought...)

Game 4: (WIN) Louisville (Lost by 6 in one of the better games of the year)

Game 5: (LOSS) Nebraska (WOW. GOT KILLED!!! Nebraska got some garbage touchdowns to make it look close, but it was 42-10 going into the 4th)

Week 1: 2-2-1

Could have been worse. I totally missed this thread and then was gone all weekend. Dangit.

Oh well, keep doing it because I am curious how you do, being that you are one of the biggest college football fans of anyone I know.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Will do. Hopefully I'll do better than .500 next week, but I want to keep picking games between the good teams to make it interesting. Noone cares if Florida beats Wester Carolina by 30 or 40 points, so we'll see how it goes.

Man I love college football!! The Kentucky-Louisville game was sooooo good!! Kentucky ended up throwing like a 60 yard bomb with 8 seconds left to win the game!!!! IT WAS SOOOO GOOD! The school got fined for having student rush the field afterward, but who really cares at that point???

I saw the highlights for that. Wow, that was pretty sweet. Too bad nothing cool like that ever happened for our college football team while we were in school... :(

Here goes another round of College Football Pick 'em!!

Michigan State At Notre Dame (+12.5)

South Carolina at LSU (-16.5)

Georgia at Alabama (-3.5)

Washington at UCLA (-6.5)

Re:College Football Pick 'em! 5 years 9 months ago #1125

My Picks:

#20Texas A&M
at Miami (-2.5)

Well, I really have no confidence in Miami's offense and A&M's defense is terrible (see 3OT game vs Fresno). But, A&M was 4-0 on the road last year and has posted an impressive 9-0 mark when playing on Thursday nights (since 2000). Also, the Aggies are averaging 46.3 ppg so far this year. I'll take A&M, but not moneyline.

Michigan State at Notre Dame (+12.5)

Michigan State is tied for the most sacks in the Big 10 with 17 in their first 3 games. Notre Dame has cardboard cutouts of Touchdown Jesus as offensive lineman. Unless a true \"Miracle\" happens, I'll take Michigan State to cover.

#12 South Carolina at #2 LSU (-16.5)

In it's 100+ year history, South Carolina has never beaten a team ranked higher than #3 in the nation. Well guess what, they won't change that trend this weekend...LSU has looked GREAT this season so far. I fully expect the Tigers to win this ballgame, I just don't think they'll win by 17 points. Spurrier usually finds a way to keep games closer than you originally would guess and I'm putting my trust in him do so again this week.

#22 Georgia at #16 Alabama (-3.5)

In my opinion, this is the toughest game of the week to pick. Does Saban continue his winning streak or does a solid Georgia team come in an run the ball down the Tide's throat?? Ahhhhhh!! I'll go with the Tide covering the spread at home.

Washington at UCLA (-6.5)

UCLA getting shellacked last week in Utah is a major concern, but look for this Bruins team to use last weeks loss as motivation rather than letting the trend continue. Washington also lost last week to #10 Ohio State, who came to Seattle and beat the Huskies convincingly 33-14 with an explosive 2nd half, outscoring UW 30-7. The 2nd half exposed the Huskies for what they are, a good team who's not quite ready to beat a solid team like UCLA.

Were there any additional games people wanted to see me pick for??

Like your picks this week... the only change I would make is LSU to cover (Only because they are at home though.)

Otherwise, looks good.

If you post a link to wherever you get your spreads that has a list of all the college FB games, I'll prolly look it over and see if any others catch my eye for you to pick.

Knock yourself out. I am 0-1 for the week so far thanks to A&M's multiple turnovers in the last 2 MINUTES of the first half. TERRIBLE!!

Wow... yeah, that was a tough one. Here are some for you this week:

Duke at Navy (-14)

Penn State (-3) at Michigan

Iowa at Wisconsin (-7)

Purdue (-14) at Minnesota

Re:College Football Pick 'em! 5 years 8 months ago #1217

Per College Wolf's request, I will now add these for games as a BONUS to the regular 5 games I pick each week.

Duke at Navy (-14)

Duke is fresh off their first victory in two years while Navy is coming into the game banged up (starting QB and LB left last game with sprained ankles) and on a two game losing skid. The Midshipmen were also banged up and on a two game losing streak when they traveled to Durham last year, but Coach Johnson and his boys still came away with a 38-13 victory. I don't know if the difference will be 25 this year, but playing in Anapolis should help Navy cover the spread.

Penn State (-3) at Michigan

The biggest storyline of this matchup is: Will this be the year Penn State FINALLY pulls out a win against Michigan. Their losing streak is currently at 8 games. I'm confident in Michigan's ineptness (especially if Henne is still out) more than Penn State's greatness, but I still like PSU to cover in this one.

Iowa
at #9 Wisconsin(-7)

Wisconsin has had its share of trouble so far this year, struggling to beat even the lowliest of foes (The Citadel). Although the Badger offense has been sound, their defense is leaving something to be desired allowing 22 points and almost 350 yards per game. Iowa has had their own troubles, the Hawkeyer come into this game ranked LAST in the Big 10 in offensive scoring, passing yards and first downs. However, Iowa's defense is only allowing 6 points and an astounding 62 yards on the ground so far this year. The Iowa-Wisconsin series is dead even at 40-40-2 and this one should be another close one. I like Wisconsin to win but not by 7.

Purdue
(-14) at Minnesota

Gophers are ranked 118th in the country against the pass (allowing 431 YPG through the air), while Purdue's offense is 15th in the country through the air. The Gophers are in for a tough challenge and this one may turn into a shootout. Can Minny's offense keep up? My guess is no, as Purdue QB Curtis Painter will feast on the Gopher secondary on his way to a career day. Purdue wins comfortably and covers.

Nice. Thanks. No analysis for the Gophers game?!?! I'm shocked!

I'm curious to see how you do this week!

Sorry, ran out of time earlier.

I'm hoping I can do better than .500, if I had something riding on all of last weeks games I'd lost money...

Re:College Football Pick 'em! 5 years 8 months ago #1352

Game #1: Texas A&M 17 Miami 34(WRONG)
This one wasn't even that close, A&M looked arrrful and inept while Miami flashed back to the early 2000s (has it been that long?). The 'Canes were up 31-0 at the end of 3 and had no trouble covering the three point spread.

Game #2: Michigan State 31 Notre Dame 14 (RIGHT)
Well, at least the Irish scored on offense this game (twice). First 0-4 start in THE HISTORY OF NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL...Michigan State easily covers 12.5

Game #3: South Carolina 16 LSU 28 (RIGHT)
Is is weird how Spurrier's teams are now known for their Defense??? LSU still won...but they didn't cover the 16.5 point spread :)

Game #4 UGA 26 BAMA 23 (WRONG)
UGA won in an overtime thriller...good for them for not for me because I picked Saban and the Tide to cover (-3).

Game #5 Washington 31 UCLA 44 (RIGHT)
How did UCLA get blown out by Utah, then cover the 6.5 spread versus a solid Washington team??

Game #6 Iowa 13 Wisconsin 17 (RIGHT)
Wow. This one was the defensive battle I thought it would be (in Iowa's case, offensive Ineptness)...Wisconsin should not be in the Top 10 IMO, Wisc was favored by 7.

Game #7 PSU 9 Michigan 14 (WRONG)
Another battle of ineptitude...I took Penn State because I thought they'd cover 3 against a freshman QB.

Game #8 Duke 43 Navy 46 (WRONG)
What was this, basketball??? Navy had to score 14 unanswered points (including a game winning FG on the last play) to pull out a victory. Needless to say Navy did not cover 14...

Game #9 Purdue 45 Minnesota 31 (PUSH)
Painter *only* had 338 yards through the air, which actually will decrease the Gophers average...Minnesota scored 28 points in the 2nd half to screw me.

Week 4: 4-4-1
Overall: 6-6-2

Exactly 50%!!!
