Some team will offer Craig Smith decent (but not great) money this off-season. If we match another team's offer, it will be one of our most idiotic decisions in a while. There is NO room for him on our roster. I'm sorry, there just isn't.

If Craig Smith is our primary backup Center, we will have some serious issues this season.

I agree!!
But what I also think is that Smith is way better than Collins, Cardinal, Madsen and Richard. So.... we keep 4 crappy players and get rid of the one good piece?
Seems like the Wolves way I guess.

Wow, I guess my basketball IQ isn't up to par. I guess we're ok with handing over roles to both Love and Richard who have yet to show anything in the NBA, and get rid of talent like Smith.
The ONLY reason I see for getting rid of Smith is to try and do some kind of deal for a point guard.

Lets sink or swim with these guys next year (I couldn't care less about seeing the stiffs play EVER). Let lazy defense get guys pulled not missed shots. I'm EXCITED.

(unordered)
1. Foye
2. Brewer
3. Love
4. Jefferson
5. McCants
6. Mike Miller
7. Sebastian Telfair - if Miami gets him put Shaun Livingston here, if we don't get Livingston, let McCants play the point (he can handle it... just ask him)
8. Ryan Gomes
9. Richard (I guess)

Where are there minutes for Craig? Not there. He belongs in the NBA just not on this roster.

So Richard is the only sub coming in for Jefferson and Love? The rest are 2's and 3's. I guess we're using the quick lineup. That worked wonders for Phoenix, even with a guy named Nash running the show.

I'm counting on some ugly Gomes PF minutes. Also I know full well that Madsen/Collins/Cardinal will end on on the court when guys need a quick rest. Still I'd rather see the guys above struggle to make the best of bad matchups than find out the extent of Brian Cardinal's game. Trial by fire.

I guess I'm a little frustrated that we're always one or two pieces/positions removed from a DECENT squad. As far as I'm concerned, we are in need of a solid point guard and center (and have been for a while), two positions that are crucial for winning games. (I'm calling Jefferson a 4, though I think he does just fine at center.)
Assuming Telfair somehow stays, the roster should look something like:

1) Telfair
2) Foye
3) Miller
4) Love
5) Jefferson

Bench/Subs

1) Foye
2) McCants
3) Gomes/Brewer
4) Smith/Richard
5) Collins/Cardinal

Foye can fill in at point guard if Telfair needs to sit.
We are way too weak at the 1 and 5 spots.

You are giving too much weight to the team winning/losing next season. The center position will be a huge defensive liability next season. Nothing is going to change that (even bringing in Scalabrine AND Swift).

Also Foye IS the Timberwolves starting PG next season unless Telfair's shooting percentage goes from .40 to .47.

1) Foye
2) McCants
3) Miller
4) Jefferson
5) Love

Bench/Subs

1) Telfair
2/3) Brewer/Gomes
4/5) Richard/Madsen/Cardinal/Collins

What should we be concentrating on if not wins and losses??

Developing talent? No one stays here long enough! They either don't amount to anything, or if they do, they sign on with another team.

Smith is indeed probably the better player, but the problem is that we are already paying those guys guaranteed money and Smith will be a FA. It makes no sense to overpay to keep him around when he shouldn't be playing Center in the first place. His defense is average at best and he's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too undersized to play Center. 6'6\" isn't going to cut it as your center, even if its only as a backup. There were times when he got abused defensively last season... and that was while playing PF.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Let's hope our young players can run circles around everyone because rebounds are not going to come easy.

Foye Domination should refer to:

1. Stuckey dropping 27 on him when we were beat by Detroit's backups.

2. When Durant scored 10 points on him in like 2 minutes without missing a shot until they mercifully switched assignments ending the massacre.

The fact that rookies can score on him at will is sad to me.

Stuckey is a very good offensive player, as he showed in the finals, and Durant...seriously he's SIX FOOT NINE! The only shame in that is that the Wolves tried to guard Durant with Foye.

Foye isn't a good defender, but let's be fair.

Yeah, I really like the Rhino as a person, but he has to go. We're already way too undersized with our big men. Even if Richard isn't as good, he at least gives us some size which we desperately need. We need some big men to allow Big Al to occasionally play the PF spot. If he's always out there with Smith and Love he'll constantly be the center.

Then again, if he wants a 2 year deal, he can stay. I'll take a 2 year flier on anybody right now. They just have to know that when 2010 hits, their cap money is going towards an all-star. We can sign Smith to a 2-year 10 million dollar deal for all I care.

I don't have a checklist and crossing teams 1-by-1 or anything, but aren't the wolves the worst fit for Craig Smith in the entire league? I mean he could actually be a valuable reserve for a lot of teams, he just doesn't fit here at all considering half our roster is undersized power forwards.

As you said, it's not as if we don't like Rhino, it's just one of those situations where it's best for everyone to go seperate ways.

ahahah. I read through this thread in my drunken bliss just to reminisce (see that rhyme). Things like prioritizing Craig Smith over Al Jeezy and Kevin Love were mentioned. We were all so funny...

Yes. He pretended to be a thoughtful poster, but he was stalking us,preparing to steal all our contributors and build his empire over at Canis Hoopus, built around the theology of his own personal draft rankings.
