Hi, good to be back, but not so good to read all these baseless complaints about Kahn.
How come you guys bash Kahn before he even stepped into office?!?!
Give him a chance! Unlike Penn he's experienced as a GM. That's a good thing. When he ran the Pacers (for 4 years) they where one of the best teams in the league.
How can you consider a friendship with Stern as a bad thing? That's very good for the T-Wolves. They had terrible relationships with the commissioner ever since the Joe Smith fiasco. Now they will have great relationship. It can serve them very well.
Kahn is far more capable than the "inner circle" candidates such as Hoiberg and Stack. The first is a nice guy but nothing more and the latter is a clueless man who helped running the Knicks franchise to the ground.

Then why did Taylor say just a week or so ago that Kahn has some problems they learned of in the process and no longer on the list of people they will hire?

That is why this looks so bad. Taylor kept his mouth shut, not as bad as it is seen now. It now just looks like a desperate move and the only guy who would agree to work for Taylor.

Exactly!
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

First of all, Taylor never said that. Taylor has not commented on this process since the season ended.

That whole D-League shadiness was based on a footnote in one article cited by a sportswriter. There has been little elaboration, and for all we know, could be a total fallacy. I'm eager to hear more.

My beef with Khan:
-Out of league for 7 years
-Signed some atrocious contracts in his hey day incuding a 100 million dollar Jalen Rose deal (I BELIEVE, I'm likely wrong here) and a 50 million Austin Croshere deal

However I understand the psychological thought process of our small group of die hards. No matter what happens, no matter how many times we bitch and moan about the past, or say we are quitting, 95% of us still watch every game. This year is no different.

Still disappointed in the outcome, but there is nothing we can do.

No offense but this is one of the worst posts I've ever seen on this site.

What do you mean the worst post you've ever seen? Is Twolf3234s opinion baseless? Is Wally Worlds clarification fabricated? There are 2 sides to every story and frankly I welcome any clarification to this arguement. I know nothing about Kahn and I seek some unbiased evaluation of this guy. Let this thread flow! Bring it on!

one thing I like about this message board is you can discuss the Wolves and disagree about the Wolves without anyone getting too upset or insulting. So I will measure my words carefully:

It's the process of how Kahn was hired, the great candidates who were immediately not interested after meeting with Taylor, and the insistence on keeping the same retreads who have made our franchise into a debacle (actually, we used to be a debacle. Now we're a team that nobody even talks about anymore. At least during the "giving up several picks for Joe Smith" era we were noticed)

We won't have to wait long to get a sense of Kahn's ability. The draft is aproximately a month away and Kahn has those three first round draft picks to work with.

I understand the frustration everyone has with the process. Sadly, Timberwolves General Manager is not a sought after position. I don't have a lot of knowledge on Kahn's past GM performance so I'll reserve my judgement on him...for a month.

Actually one of you guys thought me posting about wanting Favre to join the Vikings was one of the worst post...hahaha and he will in July!!!!

but about Kahn...I know nothing about him so I can't really say he's bad or good ..but I think we need to give him a chance first because you never know.. but hopefully he is smarter than having the great idea to trade away a guy like Brandon Roy.

The draft will be a really good measuring stick for him.

I concur with roundhouse and 9Deuce. Like roundhouse said, the posters on this forum are unique in their view towards the Wolves, and unless we walk out with a $5 million deal for LeBron/Kobe, people will always find something negative to talk about. We were at this same exact place last year when I joined the forums, and I'm guessing that every year that we end up in the draft, not more than 10% of the posters are happy.

With that said, no one here know Kahn and his history. We know about what has been publicly reported recently, but at the end of the day, we're hiring a new guy that has yet to make a move for the Wolves. Until then, we can only just sit on our hands until the jury's out (Draft day).

twolf3234, you're not alone in your thinking.

From Britt's most recent column:
Nevertheless, there's no sense in being totally down and negative about Kahn until we see what he can do.

I'm fairly certain Taylor hasn't publicly commented on the search, but this might be what you're referring to when you mentioned the snag in initially hiring Kahn:

From Zgoda:
I heard this evening Taylor and Moor are cooling on one candidate the more they learn about him. Sure sounds to me like that could be Kahn, who without a doubt the owner and team CEO were very serious about.

blogs2.startribune.com/blogs/wolves/2009...-the-search-goes-on/

From Zgoda:
There’s no doubt the Wolves were very hot on former Indiana GM David Kahn, until they started hearing from multiple people questioning whether they had thoroughly checked his past.

Rumor and innuendo: what passes for fact on the Internet.

Somebody "heard" of Kahn's supposed "shady" D-League dealings and it becomes gospel. Truth is, we don't have any facts in these situations other than (a) lawsuits filed by disgruntled plaintiffs who felt they got stiffed that (b) never saw the inside of a courtroom.

Three unhired candidates become three guys who turned the job down because they didn't want to work for a dysfunctional franchise and its owner. Truth is, Penn got a fancy title and big money from his current employer and Pfund likely was never offered the Wolves job and to save face pulled out when it became apparent he wasn't going to get it.

David Kahn may yet prove to be sleazy and incompetent. I don't know, and you don't either. What I do know is (a) David Stern and Larry Bird think very, very highly of David Kahn and (b) that, in life, one always deserves the chance to prove or disprove his mettle.

Read this, people:
www.fwbusinesspress.com/display.php?id=6189

And then, read this:
archive.fwweekly.com/content.asp?article=6931

Plus... this guy is fully aware he is a fallback plan. At the beggining he was a fallback to Lindsey but it took a Tom Penn sighting to totally throw the idea of Kahn as GM away... just to vigorously return to him when Penn withdrew.

And after all of that; he's still here, willing to take the job. Talk about desperation.

As for his "achievements" with the Pacers... he traded for Tinsley and Foster, true, but I wouldn't go as far as roundhouse who said in another thread those are "two of the worst deals in the league". There are far worse deals. Moreover, Jeff Foster is ok for what he is paid, while Jamaal Tinsley is a player with serious skill, whose off-court problems and lack of a human brain cause trouble. Basketball-wise this wasn't a bad idea to give him what he earns (6-7 million range).

I dislike the Kahn signing for the same reasons CW and others do: he's been out of the league for the last 5 years and has some serious legal problems in the Developmental League.

Kurosawa: In one of the articles I posted Kahn himself admits they have financial trouble, so it's not all a hoax and "bad will" on behalf of the people he owes money.
