Ok, so hear me out on this. I am sure the Wizards would dump Arenas to almost any team in the league. They surely would for an expiring contract.

BUT, the thing is... he can still play. He would be good on a solid, veteran, organization that has a great discipline structure and roster hierarchy already in place.

What about the Spurs? Tony Parker has been rumored to be for trade for weeks now, to various teams. Parker even said he didn't know if he'd be back. A healthy Arenas could really help the Spurs, plus it allows them to move Parker for a valuable player as well. Doesn't Arenas reinvigorate this team? He can keep them in contention for as long as Duncan stays. They can afford to dump McDyess, because it sounds like Splitter will be here next year.

SA trades:

- Richard Jefferson ($15 million expiring)
- Antonio McDyess ($10 million 2 years left. They have to dump SOMETHING for taking back Arenas, and it's amazingly their worst contract.)

Washington trades:

- Gilbert Arenas ($80 million 4 years left.)
- Something else? Draft picks? A cheap young player? I have no idea.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

I know, but I think it helps the Spurs too.

CW you traitor. Gilbert is coming to the Wolves.

Wolves get: Agent Zero and Andray Blatche
Wizards get: Al Jefferson, Martell Webster and Corey Brewer

Much has happened in the last week no need to rehash it. To make a long story short the Wolves have accumulated role players and have no means to bring in a star.

As I see it we have 3 ways to get a star in the next 12 months.
1. Win the Lottery. 20%
2. Make no other significant moves and keep the the cap clean and cross your fingers for things to meltdown with another franchise. Basically this was the plan for last years deadline. Nothing happened, but everyone was waiting for this ofseason and what are th odd that happens again. 20%
3. Sign a FA. <5%. This isn't happening
4. Trade for Gilbert. The Wolves can probably do it if they want. Wizards might see it as revenge for the Rubio deal if nothing else.

We have very few options.

Why I like Gilbert? Back when he was blogging we could get a pretty solid insight into his life. Here is what I know.
1. He is a prankster who likes to bully younger players
2. He is goofball
3. His life is basketball.

To me the first two go along way to explaining what happened in Washington. I'm guessing it has aged him a few years in maturity. I love stars whose entire life is basketball. Durant, Iverson, etc. Guys like that keep going until they can't.

Gilbert put up 22 and 7 with a knee that wouldn't relent. Next year reaks of the first time the Wolves could learn from the Baron Davis situation. Baron looked dead in the water with injury after injury but after resting up he had a solid few years. Gilbert is only 28. Maybe his knee needed a couple of years off and it's decent.

Keep in mind that if we don't fill the hole at scoring/slashing guard WE WILL BLOW MONEY on the Anthony Morrows of the world. $5M to Morrow, $5M to Webster, $5M to Brewer and you've covered the amount of money that Gilbert is overpaid and you have better production.

PG: Flynn/Sessions
SG: Arenas/Ellington
SF: Wes Johnson/Lazar/Toni Kukoc Jr.
PF: Love/Blanche
C: Darko/Pek

I'm also serious about Blanche. He is a classic enigma. He can be awesome and he can drive you CRAZY. He is also has been a pain the butt and managed to injure himself training.

Wow... I like your trade and rationale a lot better than mine. Howl to you Pants.

As for Arenas, I dunno... you do make good points. His contract sucks, but if he's healthy it's not *that* bad (all things considered and compared to the rest of the NBA. Plus we still need a stud SG.)

If we don't do shit in free agency (likely), then sure, let's go ahead and trade for him. I LOVE Blatche, and he helped me win a fantasy basketball league last year. He is legit. I highly doubt Washington wants to trade him, but to dump Arenas' contract, I bet they would.

Oh yeah, and this quote seals it for me. It WILL happen. Well, unless Kahn somehow pulls some magnificant and mind-blowing trade(s) in the next two weeks. I won't hold my breathe.

Welcome to Minnesota Gilbert! :woohoo:

Blatche ended the season as a man possessed. I think you have to get him. If the Wizards otherwise would be willing to make that deal I have a hard time believing Blanche would hold it up. They are remaking that team in Walls image.

All the arguments for why Brands deal doesn't murder us hold true. We'll need to surround Gilbert via drafted guys who won't all be making big money in the next 4 years.

A counter arguement I didn't bring up is keeping our cap low and try to pull in fancy pants Presti-Pritchard type deals which are great value. Those sorts of deals get everyone all wooded up about their front office but rarely do they make or break teams. The Thunder were made great by a combo of great drafting at the top and lottery luck with KD and Westbrook and Portland was likewise build on Roy and Aldridge at the top of the draft. Those are not the cute cap deals we make a big deal out of.

Hey guys! I am new to the board...

LOVE the Arenas-to-Wolves deal. That's actually how I found this thread, was by Googling to see if anyone else out there was thinking the same thing I was.

I don't think there is any way we could get anyone as talented as Gil to sign with us through free agency. The only rumors I have heard about Wolves FA are Gay and Lee...Both wreak of redundancy. We need someone at SG...and, if we have any hopes whatsoever of luring talent to MN, we need to do this deal.

We never had a problem getting guys to come here when we had KG. Once he left, everyone is avoiding us like the plague! Time to sign a star, even if we have to overpay a bit.

Hahaha, awesome you found the forums from a google search about trading Arenas to the Wolves! That's funny.

Welcome to the board, and hope to see you stick around!

And yes I agree, there's no way we get anyone as talented as Arenas. The only reason he's even available is because of his terrible contract.

Well, for the predicament were in, why not. If we aren't able to land Amare, Johnson, or Bosh, which is doubtful, then I certainly don't want us goin after and overpaying Gay, Boozer, or David Lee!!
You'd hope that Arenas would come here humbled and with something to prove.

Could he exist with Rubio? Presuming Rubio is our PG of the future. I'd think so, as Rubio is more of the pass first mindset, and they'd be a tall enough back court to defend other teams guards.

Al and Webster for Arenas and Blatche works:
games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine

or

AL and Hollins for Arenas:
games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine

(not sure if those links are showing the trades or not??)

PG-(Rubio),Flynn,Sessions
SG-Arenas,Brewer
SF-Wes,Webster
PF-Love,PEk,Nemanja
C-Darko,Pek

I think we have to get Blatch if we take Arenas. His contract is just sooooooo gigantic.

Blatche is also the better than the whoever else they could get to be a PF with athletism (Tyrus, Wright). He needs to come.
