From Charlie Walters at Pioneer Press:
Timberwolves coach Randy Wittman isn't acting like a fellow whose team has lost 21 of 24 games this season. In fact, the guy is downright cordial these days.
\"We knew - I knew, anyway - what we were in,\" Wittman said of the attempt to rebuild the franchise after trading Kevin Garnett and his $22 million salary to Boston last summer.
Wittman seems surprisingly upbeat for a guy coaching the NBA's worst team. But he apparently sees a big picture.
\"We should be better than we are,\" he said. \"We've had games to win that we didn't win. But as long as these guys come every night, they come to practice every day, that I don't see guys quitting, they're resilient. ... I'm happy about that.\"
Really?
\"I'm dead serious,\" Wittman said. \"I don't like it (the abundance of losses), because it's on my name. But you know what? As long as we all see the picture. Trust me.
\"We knew this year was all about finding who was going to be part of the future. We'll use the whole year to find that out.\"
But what about that 3-21 won-lost record?
\"Now, that I don't like,\" he said. \"If that was all I'm dealing with, then I wouldn't be like this.\"
By the way, can the Wolves get any help? A trade?
Wittman didn't sound optimistic about that.
\"This year?\" the coach said. \"We've got 15 guaranteed contracts.\"
- Does that sound like someone that is worried about being fired? Not to me it doesn't...
