Egads.

I assume something will get done eventually. Taylor sucks, but he's not stupid enough to lose K-Lav for nothing. He has got to know what Love does for this teams revenue/popularity/etc. Plus K-Lav is a really frickin good player, on top of the economics of the situation.

Regardless, that's what the reports are this morning regarding Kevin Love's contract extension and the Minnesota Timberwolves unwillingness to offer one so far. The following is from Peter Vecesy at the New York Post:

According to the messenger, All-Star Kevin Love has not been offered an extension.Think the double-double emperor’s feelings are bruised? Think agent Jeff Schwartz might be putting the pressure on GM David Kahn and owner Glen Taylor to make a proposal pronto?

You got that right; according to my source, if one isn’t submitted by Jan. 15, 10 days before the league deadline to enrich players in Love’s position (Russell Westbrook is another), then don’t bother.

Supposedly, the restricted free agent — back for season four in superior shape and with amplified area-code accuracy — then will refuse to re-sign this summer or, if things are prolonged, the one after.

Then don't bother is some strong language. Maybe it's positioning, alright probably it's positioning, but maybe too Kevin Love never really was that thrilled with the huge mall they have in Minnesota in the first place and wants a reason to leave. As Vecesy went on to say, dude will get paid most anywhere eventually.

Love knows for sure he’s going to strike it rich. It’s just a matter of how rich. Taylor is certain to commit to four years, some $60 million. Five years is in the neighborhood of $78 million. The sole reason the fifth year is temporarily uncertain is because the T’wolves then would be restricted to re-enlisting Rubio or Williams (he’s that good!) — or signing an acquired franchise-caliber player — for four years down the line.

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Wow they better offer him a max extension. At this point he's worth it for on-court production, marketing, etc.

The wolves have really screwed up their salaries. Other teams match up all the contracts so that they can make a big signing but the wolves will never have enough money to sign a good player and we don't have our draft pick this year. Then at the end of the article there is the fact that they're not planning on signing someone until 4 years until now. It makes me weep uncontrollably.

He's going to get offered a max contract. There is no way the Wolves could justify not doing that. The guy busts his ass and puts up insane stats, night in and night out.

End of discussion.

I know. This team has been so horribly mis-managed for so long. Basically, dating back like 15 years to when they first hired McFale.

I just love how the New York post knows everything about the Timberwolves. They knew so much about Rubio and look where he is at now.

but..yeah.. K Love needs to get paid. I love his attitude and how hard he works.

As stupid as Kahn is, I think we need to take a few things into account as far as this NY Post article is concerned.

1) Before the preseason started, Kahn during an interview made it public knowledge that signing Kevin Love to an extension was priority #1 and he expected Love to be in a Wolves uniform for years to come.

2) Love has been involved in team decision making. Nobody wanted Rambis out more than Love, and when it came to input on who the next coach was going to be, Love himself said he had a hand in that decision. It would seem he has a good relationship with Taylor

3) Love got the coach he wanted. He wanted to play for Adelman and he got his wish. Adelman has said in an interview more or less that one of the sticking points of him coming on board was Kevin Love being there long term.

4) Ricky Rubio. Kevin Love didn't believe it was going to happen, was shocked when it did, and now I think he sees how great of a player Ricky can become and how much better of a player Ricky can make him.

Kwasiy - nice post and welcome!

This is all agent posturing as mentioned in the other thread. Give it a week for further anxiety to creep in.

And yes he is worth it. Marketing and all that hoopla, but also for his basketball ability. We should, as fans, want a guy we can justify offering max dollars on the team. This is a good thing.

I referenced in a post in the Spurs thread about where Love ranks among active players. I think it's time to rank the man. DFS - this is your type of challenge.

0. Rubio
1. Durant
2. LeBron
3. Rose
4. Wade
5. Kobe
6. Dwight
7. Carmelo
8. Dirk (and dropping big. This is generous. He is slower than 2008 Love)
9. Griffin
10. Deron
11. Paul
12. Love
13. Amare
14. Westbrook
15. Rondo
16. Bosh
17. Aldridge
18. Nash

....25. Beard
....43. Ibaka

I probably forgot someone. Remind accordingly.

Wait... this is basketball ability you're ranking?

Westbrook does nothing for me. He's a statistical beast who doesn't play the point guard position the right way. Unless he either sits at the end of games or figures out that low percentage pull up jump shots early in the shot clock with no one under the basket are a great way to kill your team and are a basketball sin when you have the best scorer in basketball on your team, it's hard to see OKC getting over the hump and winning championships.

I'd take Marc Gasol over Westbrook and Bosh. Neither of them make my top 20, take them off the list. Duncan also off the top 20. Steph Curry is probably narrowly in my top 20 although he's having a rough year so far in some regards (lots of TOs). Call me crazy but I think that Carmelo is overrated, Griffin and Love are underrated, and Rondo, Aldridge, and Nash are properly rated.

1. Durant
2. LeBron
3. Rose
4. Wade
5. Kobe
6. Dwight
7. Love
8. Griffin
9. Carmelo
10. Nowitzki
11. Paul
12. Deron
13. Amare
14. M. Gasol
15. Rondo
16. Aldridge
17. Scola
18. Nash
19. Curry
20. TIE - Kyle Lowry (!) and Spencer Hawes (!!!) both secretly having GREAT years.

That's kind of my mix of guys who are just flat out GOOD and guys who are playing really well this year.

Unless this is a lifetime achievement award, in which case Love, Gasol, and Curry drop a few spots each and Lowry and Hawes are gone all together.

P.S. Smart money is on Westbrook figuring out that he should never, ever shoot a pull up J without Durant touching the ball at least once and/or having Ibaka's ass under the basket. In which case they will probably win LOTS of championships.

It's amazing that Westbrook hasn't figured this out already. It's pretty freaking obvious. Get to the rim or run the offense. There is no 3rd option.

Coming down the court in transition and, without passing, pulling up to shoot "The Ridnour" is garbage.

By the way, I am not a Carmelo fan at all. I think it might be due to his wife, or maybe it's just that he shoots all the time and doesn't rebound or play much defense. Given that Durant exists, he kind of makes being Carmelo embarrassing doesn't he? "Hey, I do everything you do, only twice as successfully and without being such a douche."

Sorry for the language.

Finally, given that Love pretty much took Dirk apart three nights ago, and is statistically superior in every way other than creating his shot off the dribble (which Love surprisingly has shown this year but is still nowhere near Dirk's ability), isn't Love a lock to be ranked higher than Dirk right now? Again, unless we're handing out lifetime achievement awards?

Good points. Others chime in as to distract CW and I from killing eachother in the Spurs thread.

Not meant to be lifetime achievement, which probably influenced my rankings a bit. I feel I owe Dirk the respect. And I did add that comment. I think the Mavs will click here in short order once they cut Vince (kills that team) but after this first week and change, I totally get why Cuban opted to free up money for next year. The Mavericks franchise will forever see letting Tyson Chandler and Barea walk as a great thing in the long run. They had a one year window that is now closed and I think Cuban was a genius for recognizing their title as a very strange, unexpected stroke of luck for his team. A visionary in the best sense.

Great thoughts on Westbrook, too.

If Blake were the same player but didnt have as many fast break power dunks, he would probably be lower on many rankings (although his ability to run the floor is kind of a big deal). But he is a stud and can work in the post. I can see how Love has a better all around game, though.

Scola over Bosh? Bold. As much as I love to rip Bosh to shreds... (waits patiently for a FatSax rant)

MODS I need some serious help.

I have created the name Murphs56 for my account on 3 separate occasions and made posts. I have left this page idle, came back a few hours later and it says that the account does not exist. Additionally, it changes my user name. The latest user name is kwasiy...Hell, a few hours might go by and this post will no longer say Murphs56 next to it, but something else. I registered the way I'm supposed to, so this is really odd to me. In order to post again, I am forced to reregister my account. Anybody know whats going on? Help!

we need to extend love to a max deal. i was against it last year totally but i realize he is a very good player and fits well with rubio. we need to start building off a few legit players, and rubio and klove are a very good start.
