I know this is relatively early in his career, but seriously if Pekovic has the opportunity to stay here for 4 or 5 years putting up the numbers he is now, wouldn't that make him the best center to ever play for the Wolves?

Of the top of my head I can only think of

1. Rasho Nestorvic
2. Ervin Johnson (and he was here for what 1 or 2 years tops?

Not much for competition

Here's an article from NBA.com that brings this up

Isn't he already the best Center we've ever had?
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Yea I'd say he's already the 2nd best wolves center by default.

This team has really had some terrible centers. Rasho was okay I guess. EJ was here for two seasons and played like 10-15 minutes a game. He played solid in the 2004 playoffs though.

Kandi was failure. Longley, Spencer, Stanley Roberts, Blount all sucked. Al Jeezy played some center while he was here and posted some huge numbers, even though he was more of a power forward.

Didn't Christian Laettner play some center while he was here? Didn't he, KG and Googs play here at the same time?

Randy Breuer was awesome!

But yes, Pek is by far the best true center this franchise has ever had.

He needs to start for us for 2 seasons after this one and he'll be in a clear cut unassailable position at #1.

I think the assumption is that Al was a PF. I think in the current NBA it's safe to call Al a C. Anyway Jeezy continues to remind me of the post version of Arenas and Monta that I am discussing in the Trade Proposals thread. It's not that he isn't good; it's not that he's selfish; it's that he doesn't share the ball, and holds it way too much. If he just learned the art of kicking the ball out quickly and reposting, and if he realized that every single pass doesn't need to be a scoring pass, and that when you hold the ball for 8 seconds it kills your teammates' movement, then he'd be good. His defense while inattentive was not my least favorite part of his game.

Al played 3 solid seasons on horrible teams. If Peko has 3 solid seasos on teams that win. He has the crown. But yes he was clearly forgotten.

Regardless, every other center we've had has been completely useless. He's #1.

No doubt. But I am just pointing out that statistics aside, Al wasn't necessarily a great C given that his bad offensive habits and poor teamwork contributed to a culture of losing. Obviously the best we've had until Pek.

That being said, Pek admittedly benefits from playing with Love (who draws major attention on the boards at all times) and Rubio (worth 2-4 easy buckets a game most nights).

Pek's job is to finish inside when he gets the ball in great position, and make a few nice post moves each night. That's a much easier task than what was expected of Al.

Not true. Big A played great on bad teams and Pekovic is solid on a solid team. You can also say that Pek is having not as a hard job as Al because he has Love and is having more space. Al was double teamed most of the time.

This is silly. How much did Al play "Center" for the Wolves? Just because he has a "C" next to his name now doesn't mean he was the primary big on the Wolves.

Al plays center for Utah and he started at Center for us quite a bit while he was here.

But the best Center is obviously Stanley Roberts. Lock the thread
