KG would have gotten more than 15 and 17 wins out of those teams - that's not even debateable is it?!
And doesn't the wild success of the 04 team prove my point...that his supporting cast was garbage, and once he got two other borderline all-stars on the squad, we turned into a #1 seed. Are you saying K. Love on THAT team would have yielded 60 wins and a 1 seed? I'm not.
It feels like we are both arguing two different topics.
We definitely agree Garnett's tag team wasn't remotely good enough to realistically compete until Sammy and Spree arrived. But we are talking about how it compares to what Love has now. When you compare the (yes, sub-par) help KG had vs. the (diarrhea-like) help Love has had up until now.....I mean, are we honestly still debating this? Luke Ridnour a 3rd option last year? This is why Kahn might be worse than McHale. Seriously.
This is Love's first year playing with 2 above average players, both of whom are injured. Pretty much everyone else on the Wolves' roster shouldn't even be playing a consistent 20+ minutes for any team in the league.
KG with ok/average help - 1st round of playoffs for 7 seasons
KG with really good help - WCF for 1 year. Best month ever.
KG with Marko Jaric, Ricky Davis and Nikoloz Tskitishvili - Lottery bound for 3 years and a bottom 7 team for 2 of them. I think this is an important period to put this whole thing into perspective. Just like the year after Shaq left the Lakers, leaving Kobe lottery bound and hooping with Smush Parker. Same thing. Isn't a knock on Garnett.
Garnett is better. Garnett had some help, but not enough. Love has had a supporting cast that probably couldn't beat the Charlotte Bobcat's bench in a pickup game.
The same exact cycle of events that occurred with KG are now occurring with Love. Just wait. We'll bump this thread in 8 years and collectively guffaw.
