More or less, this will be the roster in a perfect world (Iggy would be a perfect world but this will have to do) Of course I expect someone out of Wes/Ridnour/Barea to be gone so we'll see

C Pekovic/Steisma
PF Love/Hill/Cunningham
SF Williams/Budinger/Wes/Hummel
SG C. Lee/Roy/Shved
PG Rubio/Ridnour/Barea/M. Lee

Y'know, Murph, I really hope that these guys (assuming that this is the 'Wolves roster next season) far surpasses their career stats. I look at all the talent that has signed around the league and really have to wonder WTF your front office is thinking? I mean, really, Batum for $50 mill over 4 yrs? Come on! Yeah, he had some decent games last year, but I was not overly impressed with his consistency. (To be fair, I was not overly impressed with pretty much anyone's consistency last season.) I picked him up and dropped him twice - not that I am necessarily the best basketball talent scout around - but, he would get hot and then he would go very cold. He does have talent, but has he demonstrated enough talent to command a $12.5 mill/yr contract (or, however it breaks down).

This is looking like a Jeremy Lin play. Houston offers. Knicks say we'll meet that. Houston modifies their offer, upping the guaranteed money, I believe, and the Knicks go "Eff that!" He showed some promise and more than a little bit of ability, but, seriously, is he ready to command that kind of contract?

Seems like a large number of desperate moves going on out there.

I don't mind that roster if we get all of those players. I actually think it's the strongest one we've had since the KG days... Don't get me wrong, Batum on the team makes the Wolves better than this, but it also hinders us. Now the wolves have some flexibility and can actually afford to sign Pekovic. And it's a contract year for him, you know full well he's going to play great and some Team is going to offer him a boatload of money because he plays the rarest position in Basketball

If this were how it really worked, you would always sign old guys at the end of their careers. "Richard Jefferson? He has a 16 ppg career average! Sign him." With Batum it's much more about age and upside than about past production. Think of it like buying a blue chip stock before an up and coming company makes a big aggressive push in the market.

Also, wrt Lin, that is a brilliant move by Houston and an awful move by NYK. The kid is a marketing gold mine. You know how much Houston stuff is going to be sold in Pacific rim markets as a result of Lin? Well, not as much as the Yao stuff, but still. That contract is an investment, plus the kid can hoop.

Now if the Kahnster could start wreaking havoc on OKC, I'd be impressed.

Maybe that is next year's offseason plan.

I could live with that line up, minus 1 guy to get us to 15.

SG looks a ton better than last season!

Give these guys to Adelman and see what he can do to earn his pile of cash and get them into the playoffs.

It's a real shame Ricky won't be with them right from the start...some day I will get over that, I guess. I'm ready to get all this stuff resolved and get to training camp and some games.

Exactly. That's the main reason I have no issues with slightly overpaying for Batum. Plus he'd presumably log big minutes here, and be awesome.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

I hear you on Lin, but that contract is terrible. ESPECIALLY for the Knicks. I don't think Lin is worth what it would cost the Knicks to keep him, even if it was good marketing...
The Knicks are allowed to surpass the soft cap, but it'll cost them. Considering 2014 will be the Knicks' third straight year over the cap, they'll come in for the highest tax rate allowed in the new CBA. Take a look at the "repeat offender" taxes:

The first $5M of Lin's deal, as long as it's all over the cap, would cost the Knicks at a 2.5-to-1 ratio. So that's $5M for Lin, $12.5M in luxury tax, $17.5M all told.

The next $5M would be taxed at 2.75-to-1. So, $18.75M in total.
The final $4.8M, at a 3.5-to-1 tax, would cost $21.6M by itself.

All told, that's $57.85 million for one year of Jeremy Lin—$43 million of that in pure luxury tax payments. (This is exactly how the salary cap and luxury tax are supposed to work. Want to lock up three players to max deals? Don't expect any flexibility in signing the rest of a team.)
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Well, then it's a great "screw NYK" move by Houston. Still, the Knicks are ditching the one player who was able to get that train wreck to win.

Anybody remember when I wanted the Wolves to pick Lin up when he was riding the pine for the Warriors?

Look at the teams the Knicks beat though... they all sucked. I am not convinced yet that Lin is some "star." He's definitely a solid PG, but not say Top 10, or anything crazy like that.

And YES, I do remember you saying we should have gotten Lin from the Warriors lol. In my all-white Las Vegas Lobos team post with all those crazy trades I made, I had us getting Lin from the Warriors since you suggested it. Nice.:silly:

Oh yeah dude, I thought of you several times when Lin was blowing up last year. I remember even mentioning it to CrazyWolf (nice one DFS) in person a few times this spring.

Here it is:

The Portland Trail Blazers have asked Nicolas Batum's agent, Bouna Ndiaye, to make sure Batum is in town to take a physical in the coming days, indicating that the team will match Minnesota's offer sheet of four-years, $46.5 million. At the current moment, Ndiaye says he doesn't know if the Trail Blazers plan to utilize the full three day window before they match. CSNNW.com

Well, at least this is finally over with. OK Kahn, now go do some damn actual work!!!
The Blazers are set to match the Timberwolves' four year, $46.5 million offer sheet.

Batum is in Portland on Wednesday, set to take his physical on Thursday and already has a press conference scheduled for Friday. His contract includes a 15 percent "trade kicker," which bumps the salary even higher if he is dealt before the end of the deal. Batum and the Blazers had some rough patches in the past, but it looks like money has smoothed over all of their prior issues. Batum is set for a breakout season and will be a very popular fantasy sleeper for the upcoming season.
