I just don't understand the plan with him. While I presently was not in favor if trading him for Batum, I think down the line it will be viewed as an opportunity missed.

You/we know for sure they refused to put D-Charge on the table?

No one knows for sure. I trust Doogie Wolfson and his sources who say they didn't. Portland says they did. Kahn ovevalues guys he acquired.

What I do know is if Portland turned down D Will and a 1st round pick for Batum they are bigger idiots than Kahn. Batum was never worth $12 million per year. My current defense mechanism: this contract was a bullet dodged. We should now have little difficulty keeping Pekovic long term (more important than Batum) while still have room to fart around the rest of the summer and improve the SF position.

It sounds like Portland tried to include him and the Wolves said, "sure, we'll part with him if you take on our bad contracts and also we won't give you any firsts in that case." And Portland balked.

Batum is good. Whatever, if he's a solid 2 way player then $11.5M is not tons for us since he would make 4 of 5 starters that are "plus" guys. Instead we settle on two average starters and three plus guys.

If we overpay for a 3rd big man, it really needs to be a shot blocker.

Also- and I am not saying this will happen, but I am just pointing this out- the crazy thing about Wes Johnson's skill level is that if he managed to do like 1 or 2 things better (i.e. play more physical/nasty or attack the basket more, or both) he could be a really solid player.

FALSE
He's just so athletic and has a really good shot.

FALSE
The reason his percentages are awful is because he hamstrings himself into never doing anything besides shooting outside jumpers, which always results in bad shooting percentages.

FALSE, See Novak, Steve; Battier, Shane.
If he got to the rim 3-4 times a game, he could easily be a 16-20 ppg guy.

FALSE
If he were meaner, he could be a lockdown defender.

FALSE
The tools are there.

GROSS
Just pointing out how tenuous the line between good and awful can be at the highest levels.

At the highest level of blogging (TWB, duh), your above statements were awful. Usually they are good.

LOL that cracked me up. :woohoo:

Howl to you Daddy.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Look man, I'm just saying he is the Darko of wings. He has a nice looking stroke, but he takes terrible shots. He does that because he is scared like a little girl of dribbling, because he can't.

You can't compare him to all those other guys because A) they are way better shooters than he is (I said he has a really good shot, I guess I should have qualified that by explaining that it is solid but not elite for a NBA SF). B) they all take way better shots and don't panic. C) they all are much more competitive than Wes is. They are winners. He's... Wes.

If Wes shot 6-8 FTs per game, that would mean that he is driving to the basket successfully. Come on, you tearing that apart is like saying Spiderman swinging from webs isn't realistic because the webs wouldn't be sticky enough, and ignoring the fact that I am supposing a man with spider abilities runs around in red and blue tights fighting crime. Wes isn't shooting 6-8 FTs a game, but in an alternate reality where he did, it could reasonably be inferred that he would slash more and thus scoring 16-20 ppg would be within reason. Again, if such a thing were possible.

Again, I'm not saying there is any chance of these things happening. I'm just saying he has the physical ability to do a lot of things (maybe rebound and dribble aren't on that list) but that the handful of things he does really poorly completely render those things he does well to be useless.

I guess it goes back to that thing about MKG where you have to acknowledge that playing hard and competing is a skill. Wes just doesn't have that, in spite of an otherwise good attitude. And also he can't dribble either, did I mention that?

Come on man, can't I stir up some controversy with a preposterous statement every now and then?

If "If's" were a fifth then we'd all drunk. Wes wouldn't be so stiff and Darko could dunk.

But Darko is actually good at some things when he wants to be. 2 years ago he was a top 5 shot blocker in the league and he plays some decent defense when he's motivated. Wes isn't good at anything. Not a single thing.

Honestly, that's true.

I mean... look at Wes's PER. He was like one of the bottom 5 in the entire league that played as many minutes as he did. It was just sad and pathetic.

This thread got great. Daddy's post was hilarity. And the comments from Crazy Wolf about dudes looking good in summer league having no relevancy is spot on. Don't you guys remember Skita (Nikoli Tskitisvili)? He was dropping 30's and hitting 7 threes a game in the summer league. And then couldn't even get out of a suit when the regular season came around. I feel like the young fans out there over react to summer league performances, but us grizzled vets (I know we aren't that old, but we kind of are in terms of TWolves fandom) know better.

And PS - Wes is NOT even playing good. He is averaging a whopping 2.5 rebounds, shooting a hot 41%, and a typical 2-8 from 3's. Oh yeah, and 1 assist in two games, rivaling 6 turnovers. Cut him, I don't care, he is turrrible.

Wes and D Will need to be moved. Plain and simple. I have no desire to see the D-Will at the 3 experiment for even one second. I just don't get the plan with him. So frustrating. Imagine how frustrated HE must be? He deserved a shot at forming a nice career with a team that will start him. He worked his tail off to become a #2 pick and he is looking at a really bad start to his career as a result of where he ended up.

for d-will's own good we need to move him. he is NOT a 3, he is a 4. plain and simple. he can be a good to very good 4 in this league and we are ruining him. please trade him to a team that will use him the right way.

and for wes, i will take a 2nd round pick for him (flynn style). just move on!!

I would take a top 59 protected 2nd round pick for Wes.

Foye - Almost out of the league
McCants - out of the league
Flynn - Almost out of the league
Corey Brewer - 15 year bench player
Wes - Almost out of the league
Derrick Williams - :(

Marbury - out of the league

So is Rubio the only successful guard drafted by the Timberwolves EVER?

No sarcasm: that would be a really good trade. That would be a terrific move for us because we could free up more cap space to sign someone like Rush/Lee/Brewer/Landry/Hill or whoever else we have seen be the subject of recent FA rumors. Pretty much every rumor out there I am a fan of other than J. Hill at $5 million per year.

Howl.

And great stats. Wes seriously blows donkey balls.

Seriously. Move D-Charge before it's too late. Every game he plays lowers his trade value.

Frickin Kahn. Nice draft pick. Not. :(
