If you were D.Kahn (quite an absurd vision, though) how big of a contract would you give the Pekster?

"Pekovic Would Like To Sign Extension With Timberwolves

Nikola Pekovic hopes to remain with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Barring an extension, Pekovic will become a restricted free agent in July 2013.

"I would like to stay here because of everything," Pekovic said. "I just like everything. I like the area. I like the team. I like all the stuff. Now I got some friends here. Now it's real easy. It's just nice, nice people, nice town. I would like to be here."

Pekovic trimmed his body fat to 8 percent over the summer.

"He's slimmed down, but he's stronger," Rick Adelman said. "You just watch him. Guys in the scrimmages just want out of there. They don't want to go against him. He's going to be crucial for us. If we have a guy who has to be our Iron Man, it's Pek. When we have him out there, he's such a force around the basket. It makes everybody else better." (Via Jerry Zgoda/Minneapolis Star Tribune)
"Too much coffee. Too much coffee and Gatorade. It's a hell of a mix. If you're ever tired in the morning, just try that mix, and tell me what you think.” -- Kevin Garnett

If I'm Da Kahnman, I'm giving Pek's agent 2 options right now:

1. 3-year guaranteed extension at $10m a year + team option for another year at $10m. (With this season that wraps him up for the next 4 seasons and if he is still holding up well at 31-32 years of age, we take another year.)

2. 4-year guaranteed extension at $9m a year.

I don't know how much these negotiations move, perhaps Kahn's starting offer is a million less a year on these contracts with the hopes of settling on the above numbers.

The kahnundrum is going to be if Pek is ending up at $12m a year.

I haven't spent time on the team's cap in the coming years, so I really don't know what the ceiling is for what Pek can be paid and how all that needs to fit together.

Oh, since I am playing Kahn, I also have a private moment with a smirk in front of the mirror where I picture giving Pek the max contract just to see the reaction of Kevin Love! Tod would never have such a devious thought, but again, I am channeling Kahn...

Woohoo this is good news because when a good center hits the open market, insane amounts of money get thrown around. Hopefully he'll take $9-10 million a year to stay with us.

I think he's a good one, but I just want to see him progress during the season...Came out of nowhere last year, now lets hope he gets even better

He will suffer without Rubio, that is for sure. I think Luke and Barea will have to have it drilled into their heads to look first to the lane where Pek will be planted with some outmatched dude flailing behind him.

IF he has another good season like last year (will be tough at first without Ricky), AND he stays healthy all season long... then I'd probably offer him something like $40 million over 4 years. If he proves him self again this year, he's totally worth that money. Otherwise, someone else will sign him for that, or more... :(
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

By the way, if you sign him for 3 years $10M, after those 3 years he's still only 29 years old. You'd have to sign him for 6 years to have him guaranteed at 32.

Sorry, I should have said 30-31 for the 2016-17 team option year I was referring to. I knew he would be 31 in that option year, but I shouldn't have added "32."

I really hope we extend him this year, before Portland tries to Poison Pill us.

Yep. Guaranteed to happen if we don't get him signed... :(
