It's New Years Day and all is quiet at Twolvesblog. I was up early as I am every day. I don't drink any more. I quit 15 years ago. Most of you were little kids 15 years ago.

I used to be a quality drinker. JB and water was my drink of choice Rolling Rock was my beer. I was a sophisticated partier and laughed, danced and joked with the best of them.

But as I grew older what once was a \"way of life\" became a burdon. Kids who party are cool. Adults who party are drunks. Alcohol did not make me a better husband, father or employee. Hence after dragging it around for a good part of my life I finally decided to \"hang it up.\" I am now healthy, wealthy and wise.

One of my ugly secrets is that I am old. I can hide it in the blog because no one can see me. I am young at heart though and love posting about our Wolves and debating all the issues. I particularly enjoy poking CW. My New Years resolution is to join forces with Derok and eliminate SILENT ABABU from the Elimination game once and for all.

Happy New Year to all my friends at Twolvesblog! Have a prosperous New Year and keep the faith!:)

Happy New Year to you too!

Props to you on quitting drinking. As a doctor in training, I can definitely second the notion that booze carry around a lot of extra baggage that most people don't notice when they're young and partying.

For example, CW's hangover will likely cost SILENT ABABU his life in the elimination game... 1 point left!

Very interesting post mmaland. Loved it. Wow, JB and water...I can't believe people mix booze with water - I can't handle it, it seems so gross & strange to me. Anyway, it was a very interesting post, and who cares how old you are? It's all good - I like it actually - I want us to have a cornicopia of posters of different age, region, race, gender, etc... know what i mean?

First off, that was a great post. Howl to you!

Dude, I don't care how old you are (nor anyone for that matter.) If anything, your older age (than most of us) brings additional wisdom and experiences to our debates/threads/etc. Age is just a number and you are definitely young at heart. If I didn't know your age, I would have guessed you were perhaps a college dude from your forum posts. You have some pretty hilarious posts and are very tuned into the Wolves and the NBA. So yeah, it doesn't matter how old anyone is, and I definitely don't think it's an \"ugly secret.\"

I really don't drink as much as I used to in my heydays, and sometimes wonder at what age/time does drinking/partying go from cool to uncool? Obviously social (under control) drinking is acceptable at any age, but I don't party like I used to so maybe I don't need to worry about it.

Glad to hear that you've turned things around. Thanks for the post and sharing your story. Hope you had a good New Years, and it's good to have you in the forums!

\"I particularly enjoy poking CW.\"

- Hahaha yeah, I get a kick out of it too. Too bad you picked a terrible New Year's Resolution. I am down with the rest of this post though... B)
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

This was a very good post. Like DeROK, I have seen what alcohol can do. While I was in law school, I clerked for a public defender's office and saw the effects of alcohol and drugs on families both in the adults and juveniles. I partied enough in college to sate my needs for it. On top of just the \"growing up\" I found my body just didn't process the stuff as well as I got closer to 23-24. That's when it really slowed down.

However, I do plan on rocking pretty hard when KG and Celts come to town.

As for all being quiet, I'm currently on a \"if you can't say something nice, don't say it at all\" system on this team right now.

Ooh. Ouch. I was at the ER New Years Eve night and there was a guy that came in with his head split open because he got caught in the middle of a bar fight. Totally uninvolved, just happened to stumble in between the 2 guys throwing punches.

Because some people are dumb. And have no consideration for what conseqences their actions may have on other people. Or how others may react. And because they don't think they will ever get caught. They get cocky and think that they can drive even though they are drunk and no one will realize. It's a reason that many people do many bad things. Sorry, venting about a whole nother issue. Back to stupid people driving drunk....

Take Souksangouane Phengsene for example. He got a DWI. 3 years later, he got another one, and killed Malik Sealy. 6 years later -- after serving time for vehicular homicide -- he gets another one. Man, the world is full of uncaring morons.

OK I'll jump in. Is it different today?

When I partied years ago, I drove home many times afterward. Although I was not driving on the wrong side of the road, if I had been stopped, I would have gone to jail. I was lucky.

Laws are tougher today and justifiably so, but I believe it still happens a lot. Your answers will confirm or deny that.

How can someone drive drunk you ask? When it is time to go home a decision is made. The problem is that when the decision is made we've been drinking. Thats not a good time to make a decision. I always felt in my heart I was completely capable of driving. The police wouldn't agree.

Allyson, you are a gem and I am proud of you for being responsible.

I'm sure it happens alot. And the laws are definitely tougher than they were years ago. Last year, a friend of mine was picked up for DUI even though she wasn't driving. She passed out in her car at the gas station, and becuase the keys were in the ignition, and she was in control of the car, they towed her car and booked her. Laws are important, but sometimes to the extreme. In my friend's defense, she was wasted, but waiting for a ride, trying to stay warm when she passed out in her car.

I don't know if I would say that I'm a gem. I mean, there are other reasons that I haven't driven drunk than just being responsible and deciding not to drive. But thanks, your pride in me is much appreciated.
