I just finished A Storm of Swords (3rd book)

MINOR SPOILERS

Damn that was the best one yet. I'm really liking how the storylines are finally converging and the pace is picking up. But I gotta say, some of the stuff is just downright depressing. Just when you think a character is finally going to catch a break something unimaginally horrible happens to them and/or they end up dead. George RR Martin must be a sad miserable person in real life.

It's interesting how Stannis & Melisandre are basically the saviors of the Seven Kingdoms, yet there is definitely something evil going on there. If they turned out to be main protagonists that would be a nice shocking twist I think.

I can't wait until Littlefinger gets whats coming to him, he is the most despicable, unlikeable character in the whole series

The 3rd season on HBO is going to be crazy. They are going to be a lot of confused people wondering wtf just happened when main characters start dying left and right...well even more than usual at least!

My team of 5 characters that I put together at the end of season 2 isn't looking so good

Heck yeah the third book is fantastic! Definitely the best so far, for sure.

They might need to split it into two seasons on HBO, since it's so long and so much stuff happens. It would be a shame if they shortchange the book by skipping parts and/or dumbing parts down.

4 and 5 are split??? Dang, I didn't know that. 6 and 7 are basically gonna be one long book split as well. Still upcoming HBO seasons should be epic if they do them right (and follow book 3.)

I'm finally getting around to watching season 3 of Deadwood. I can't find a good .avi or .mp4 upload anywhere but oh well. Next up after this is both seasons of Rome. Has anyone seen it?

On a related note, I'm halfway through the 4th book and sadly this series is taking a turn for the worse. Not a single Tyrion, Daenarys, or Jon Snow chapter. He's ignoring all of the best characters and storylines. No Bran chapters either. Although I never really found them that interesting, Bran has yet to even be mentioned in name so far, which is just ridiculous.

About 2/3rds of the book is just Cersei and Jamie, which is overkill. I actually like them as characters, but it's way too much. I like the Brienne of Tarth and Arya chapters best, and that's about it. All the new characters are boring. Don't give a shit about the Greyjoys, and the Littlefinger/Sansa chapters are just awful. I get so tempted to just skip them.

There hasn't been a single battle either. Mostly just Cersei's dillusional thoughts. Please tell me this book gets better in the 2nd half.

I agree Book 4 really sucked for at least the first half. I will say though that it gets much better towards the end.

Once the season gets rolling, we'll have to pick new "teams" again. My team from last season has been absolutely decimated.
