Man, you guys are harsh, let me nitpick my favorite show in peace!

I was pretty much trolling with that response, but my point still stands, Littlefinger and Varys wouldn't confront each other like that. That's something that Ned Stark would do because he's so honest or one of the Lannisters would do just for the lulz.

Has anyone read the books? Started the first one last week and am going to try to finish the 5 that are out before starting the TV series again (I quit about half through season 1, then moved to Dallas and never picked it up again after).

The first book is extremely captivating and good. Way too many characters but you can decide quickly who is important after a few chapters. Reading it is more like an "experience" vs. something you can skim through. Highly recommend.

Just started. They are interesting as hell. I like that I've watched the series first, now I have some faces to go with names because I'm just learning how to read books for leisure (I read all day/night as a PhD student).

Yea the books are really good for the most part. They can drag on once in awhile. I've read the first 4 books so far. I would rank them:

3
1
2
4

Friend of mine who recommended said something that happens in the 3rd is jaw dropping. Eager to get there.

Definitely unlike any book I have read. It skips the usual formulas which is refreshing. I love how the author frames conflict between people (even the kids) using seemingly minor events.

I read the first 3 books when they originally came out 10+ years ago.

Been re-reading them all again when the show started on HBO... I only have like 200 pages left in Book 5. Great stuff.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

That's how I'd rank them too. And then I'd put Book Five at #4, above Book 4.

But yeah, such awesome books. Probably the best series I've ever read.

Pretty good episode again, I thought.

I don't think anything really big or crazy will be happening though until the last episode or two of the season. This show is gonna have to be like 12 seasons long, at least. Lol. :silly:

So, I haven't read ahead, I'll just tell you my gut predictions. I Daenerys HAS to have a big setback, maybe she loses this next battle. At her rate, she will be absolutely unstoppable back in the Seven Kingdoms. Also, Joffrey and Robb are going to probably get huge reality checks at some point. Since the story has thus far been about Starks being unable to play the game of thrones effectively (The Brandons, Lyanna, Eddard), I suspect Robb's fate will be an early death. Who knows. I also suspect Jon Snow lives throughout his scheming and plotting. Or else this whole ordeal was pointless.

I just hope Tyrion, Cat's old Uncle, and Hodor stay alive. I guess Jaime is not supposed to be a very evil guy, eh? He made one treacherous decision only when the presence of evil ass Cersei pressured him too do so. maybe Jaime will be key in helping Cat and Robb's baby & wife stay alive or something.

They are definitely making Jamie out to be a good guy in the show, in the books it's not so clear cut. The story he tells Brienne in last week's episode about how the Mad King was going to kill everyone in King's Landing isn't in the books, as far as I can remember. I guess they want him to be likeable. It really isn't that big of a deal though, because I liked him in the books anyways despite his good/bad guy status being much more ambiguous.

Yeah, that sums things up about right. I also don't think that story about the Mad King is in the books, as far as I can recall.

I like Jaime though too from the books, so I'm also fine with what they are doing to his character on the show. Plus a little changes here and there keep it fresh for those of us that have already read ahead. Nothing wrong with that imo... at least, as long as they don't make crazy huge storyline changes.

Gross. All the fycking sh*t they will never fit into the episodes and put together two episodes in a row with more filler than good stuff. Disappointed. :(

It just went from being an AWESOME! show to being an awesome! show.

I can't rank GoT above Justified. Probably no longer above Breaking Bad either.

The books rock hard... but the show might just be too ambitious of an undertaking. At least, for only the small 10 episode seasons they are doing.
