Michael is definitely making an appearance from what I've heard.

I agree that it was an amazing episode. They're knocking them out of the park ever week now. Even if the mirror matter theory isn't 100% accurate, I think it's pretty clear that the island exists in some sort of \"alternate\" dimension and you have to travel through an electromagnetic storm to transfer from one to the other.

Also, if the mirror matter theory were absolutely correct, then the \"moon\" that the island is on spends most of its time under the earth's ocean. If that were the case, they would have had to time the helicopter flight exactly to avoid flying it into the ocean once they transferred back to our universe. That didn't seem to be the case.

I think the theory is correct in that the show is based on mirror matter theory and electromagnetism, but the exact specifics of the \"moon\" and it's orbit are probably not dead on. Really, how could you expect them to be?

So, Lost is on right now and I'm barely even paying attention to it. This is UNTHINKABLE for me. I hope people don't remember Lost just for how it ends, because this current season is TERRIBLE. It's such a shame too, because Lost is the best TV show ever made. The first 4 seasons are unrivaled.

Derok, if you see this, I'd like to know your thoughts on what Lost has become.

I read through all the comments in this thread, and it made me remember the happy days when every episode of Lost was amazing and completely unpredictable and I would freak out when I saw the next week's previews because I couldn't wait an entire week to see it.

Anyways, the real reason I dug up this thread is because I was flipping through channels the other day and saw John Locke on an episode of Matlock. I've never seen him on anything else before. He looked soooooo young. And it was really weird because Matlock's first name is Ben, so it freaked me out because it's exactly like when he talks to Ben Linus on Lost.

It does seem that there isn't much time left to wrap things up but I don't see this season being terrible at all. Wrapping up a show whose entire premise is based on confusion and mystery is no easy thing.

Tonights show was the weakest thus far in large part because the actress playing Mrs. Kwan is so the worst on the show by far. STOP GIVING THE SAME SHOCKED LOOK WITH YOUR EYES WAY TOO WIDE OPEN EVERY SCENE.

As great as Lost is, to be the best show ever it would need characters I'll legitimately miss. At no point did it ever have that (closest being Sawyer).

Yea I guess I can't really fault them for not being able to pull it all together flawlessly. The storyline was so out there with so many twists, it'd be impossible.

But this season's storyline has nothing whatsoever to do with what they built in previous seasons.

I still think the mirror matter theory explains what they were doing in the 1st 4 seasons, it just fits together so perfectly for it not to be. I can see how it would be difficult for them to explain everything and the end a show that's largely based on physics without boring the audience to death.

But seriously, the smoke monster that's posing as Locke and is actually the devil and the only thing that keeps him from invading the rest of the world is the island? The writers just pulled that entirely out of their ass. I'm not a fan of the alternate reality "flash forwards" in this season either.

P.S. My favorite characters are Claire, Charlie, Desmond, and Mr. Eko (tis a shame he got killed off so early on). And agreed on Sun, she's not good at all. Apparently in real life she's like super famous actress in Korea? I think.

Claire isn't my cup of tea but I'd put Eko, Desmond and Charlie at the top of my list as well. The killing off of Mr. Eko was a big mistake. He was far too interesting/charismatic to lose that quickly.

The business about the devil is a little much. It seems like instead of answering the questions through out the series they've created final season questions and answers.

Do we really know why things went down like they did with the gassing of the Dharma initiative?

Why were the Others always so hostile to intruders?

The concepts of Jacob and the Smoke Monster were basically after thoughts and now it turns out they are everything? gaaaa.

The other thing I don't like about this season (and last season as well) is how the characters aren't staying true to form. If you ask a majority of Lost fans, they'll say their favorite character is Locke and least favorite character is Jack (let's face it, Jack is a major douche).

But in the past few seasons, Ive really come to despise Locke (even before he died and the smoke monster took over his body or whatever) and now that Jack has I-don't-give-a-shit-about-anything attitude that's not really him at all, he's pretty cool.

On that same thought, Ben used to be one of the best villains in any tv show ever, and now he's just a whiny little biotch.

To answer your questions:

I don't think they ever clearly explained the Dharma gassing deal. It was Ben who did it, but they only reason they really give us is that he hates his dad? As ruthless as Ben is, he wouldn't kill all those people just to get to his dad. He'd find another way to do it and then manipulate the other people into becoming his minions.

The Others are so hostile because they're pretty much just a religious cult if you go off of the storyline of the current season. Jacob was their "God" and he gave them instructions through Richard. They were hostile to people who aren't supposed to be on the island because they only want "candidates" to come to the island. If there are other people around, the Smoke Monster can manipulate them to help him get off the island.

I don't know, there really have been so many twists and turns that I can't remember it all clearly.

Oh and on your last point, agree completely. Back in the day when "Jacob" was only whispered about but nobody really knew who he was and the Smoke Monster was just thought to be of as a defense mechanism of the island that Ben could "summon" with unpredictable results, it really was a cool little side mystery to the plot of the show.

These aren't really things that absolutely "needed" to be explained. So with that, I will never understand why they made it the main focus of this season, because in my opinion it just totally ruins it for me.

I have seen one episode of Lost in my life.

I read this entire thread.

Wow. What is going on?

It sounds like the most convoluted show in the history of television, lol.

Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

There is a Simmons and Klosterman podcast where they talk about lost (recent). They lament the fact that if you talk about the show around non-watchers they come off thinking the show is preposterous.

I'm not saying the show is retarded or anything like that, but man, all the stuff you guys are talking about sounds very inplausible. I mean, if like only one of these things (Time Travel, Satan, etc) happened in any other show, that alone could be considered whacky...

If you'd seen every episode, as crazy as the show is, everything makes sense (up until the current season anyways)

The writers are geniuses.

For sure. But they also assume you have watched every episode in great detail, which I guess is kind of a good thing (to finally have a show that appeases to diehards).

I started watching from Season 1 again, and it's interesting to see how the show has developed and to catch things that get referenced in later seasons.

Read somewhere that Dharma doesn't ever really get discussed again in the final season, which has focused primarily on the mythological aspect of things. I still wish they better explained the Dharma initiative, and how it came to be. Maybe I just missed something. The time traveling bit seems to have just fallen out the window and was never really tied up. What the hell happened to Desmond, etc.

I can't even begin to predict with will happen, but it seems to be something with purgatory (which writers have claimed isn't the case). I don't know, what are everyone's theories before I ramble incessently for three more paragraphs?

Yea it is crazy how every little detail in every single episode is significant. They show Lost reruns on the weekends and every once in a while I'll watch until the next commercial break or whatever and you see sooo many things that are important in later episodes.

I can't remember exactly, but they did explain that Dharma was there to study the time travel, electromagnetic, and healing aspects of the island. But then again, I don't think they ever explained how Dharma found the island in the first place.

Desmond apparently sailed off into the sunset with Penny and lived happily ever after? Who knows.

The way I've understood it, the island is a "jail cell" for the Smoke Monster aka Devil? I don't even know anymore. I'm only still watching because I feel obligated to see it all the way through to the end.

That's exactly how I felt with "Nip/Tuck" the past season, lol. That show jumped the shark like 3 years ago...

Same for me. I had to give up on Nip/Tuck. It became so laughably bad, I couldn't even watch it anymore.
