I watched Kobe last night in the loss to Memphis. When the game was on the line and it was time to put his team on his back, he failed miserably. Memphis was all over him like bath water and all he could do was flail around, attempt to charge the basket, leap up in the air and shoot the ball out to an unsuspecting teamate at the 3 point line who would miss the shot. They had an unbelievable amount of 3 point attempts and made few. That was about all they could muster. Memphis looked like the Timberwolves last night. They have good young players who have the potential to shine. Go Menphis!

LeBron>Kobe

Glad you see the light on that one. Wish the rest of the nation and MVP voting media did as well...
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Did you guys listen to todays Simmons podcast. He and his guest (a former wolf and current celtics announcer) talked about the MVP and said that the top 3 guys going for it are KG, Kobe and Chris Paul. They even talked about how LeBron is no longer in the mix. I haven't watched more than one cavs game since the trade so I can't really weigh in on it.

I do agree about Kobe being overrated as a big game guy. Granted it is hard to always look good in tight situations when you take every shot in the last two minutes if your team is down, but I've seen him look bad when he presses in those situations over and over again. He really is more of a pile it on guy. I thought he be a beast in the playoffs last year and he never even had a breakout game. He is a fun guy to watch but I think that part of his rep is overrated.

I'm not a Kobe hater but I'd love to see KG sneak the MVP out from under LeBron and Kobe.

Lebron is by far the best player but you have to be leading a successful team which he isn't. He's got lots of years to make it though.

Good post Pants...

Honestly, I think that if the Celtics win 65+ games, KG has gotta be a serious MVP candidate. I'd love it if he was able to win it. Maybe the Lebron/Kobe/Paul votes will cancel each other out and allow KG to sneak up and take it?

I'm sorry but this is a joke. Everyone who has responded is baffling my mind. Have you not watched this Man amongst boys destroy teams at will more often than not? I sure have. I'd like to tell you these superstars are not capable of ever having a game below the standards we set for them, but it would be a fallacious statement. Kobe had a terrible game (or final few minutes), woopdeedoo. He is on National TV probably every week, so we watch an awful lot of Kobe. Because of this, we'll see his good games, and the ones he's not able to be so \"clutch\" in as well.

Despite the obvious flaws we see in KG's game we still lobby for him to get the MVP award and put him on this exclusive list of \"best ever\" every time we speak his name.

A man who scores so fluidly and as easily as Kobe is rare indeed. Outside of Dejaun Wagner, who else alive has scored more points than Kobe in any game? It's a short list. The man has three championships as well.

To simply sum him up as overrated because he's had a few sub par games is ignorant. Lebron may be better than Kobe, but I'm not sure he's proved it. Isn't this like the KG/Duncan debate? Duncan's got rings, KG doesn't - so let's wait to make the comparison...Same thing here, let's see how Lebron and Kobe end up in 5 years.

Should the scoring leader be the MVP?

I wouldn't say Lebron is simply the best *fantasy* player. I think its hard to argue that he's one of the top 3 overall players in the league, if not the best overall.

I totally agree here Daddy...you are right on the money...

I mean when there is a game on the line and you had to chose who you would have take the final shot...who would that be...Kobe...I love James...but Kobe is my first choice...It is amazing to watch Kobe take a team on his shoulders and single handedly win games...James is not quite at that level but I believe is very close...

not too mention Kobe has already won a few rings...KG has not...James has not...

Also I think the MVP should be thought of as this, What is the greatest impact to a team if that person was hurt...there is no doubt in my mind that it is in this order:

James
Kobe
Paul

People who are true fans of the game will give Kobe the respect he deserves and really it is a shame that he has not won an MVP yet...

Dude... it's not a \"lifetime achievement\" award. Why can't people get over that fact? Everyone keeps clamoring to give it to Kobe because he \"hasn't won one yet\"

Re:Kobe 5 years 1 month ago #10727

I am not saying it is a lifetime achievment award...

Kobe should have won it at least more than once so far...Why the angst against Kobe???

You have not answered my question on who you would want to take the final shot at the end of a game???

The MVP should certainly not go to KG, because he \"finally\" has people around him...that is why the Celtics have the best record...If anything, it could be argued that the MVP of the Celtics is Paul Pierce or Rondo...because if the C's were to loose any of those players it would affect them more than if they lost KG...the C's played just fine without KG the stint he was out earlier in the year...

The MVP doesn't go to the player you want taking the last shot. It doesn't go to the player whose team would suffer the most if he left. It goes to the player who contributed the most to his teams success for the year. I don't believe Cleveland has been successful enough this year to warrant giving it to Lebron even though they would suffer the most if he left. Nash won it 2 years in a row not because he was the guy who took the last shots but rather of how he enabled his team to win.
