Well we have had some good (and some not so good) MVP discussion on here, what are your thoughts on the Rookie of the Year award?

It seemed early on like Durant was going to be the unanimous pick. However, Al Horford & even Luis Scola have been big contributors to playoff teams.

Other guys that may deserve mention in the top 5 are Jamario Moon, Joakim Noah, Thaddeaus Young, Al Thornton, Jeff Green, Juan Carlos Navarro, Mike Conley, probably some other guys I am forgetting, and my dogg, Aaron Freight Train Gray...

discuss....

Al Horford
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

I'll stick with Durant and his even 20 ppg (good shooting percentage in march). It is hard to compare Durant and Horford because Horford has done well contributing rebounds and efficient scoring on a team that didn't need him to take 17 shots a game. It certainly isn't a no brainer. It also isn't a given that Greg Oden will become the top big man in the draft. For once Alanta is on the right side of a draft pick.

I believe it should be Horford, but I'm sure it will be Durant based on marketability.

For the record, I am having trouble deciding between Durant, Horford, and Scola.

Durants 20 ppg are far above anyone else, but he has been given alpha dog status on his team, while all other rookies have been placed as 3rd or 4th cogs, or lower.

Horford has been a solid player for a Hawks team that is making the playoffs for the 1st time in a long time. However, he scores 10 ppg, which is nice, but may be a stretch for a R.O.Y.

Scola should be in the conversation as well I believe. In the 35 games he has started, he has averaged 12.5 ppg & 7.4 rpg with a 53% fg%. He also has obviously been one of the key cogs to Houston's shocking post-Yao Ming run as one of the top WC teams.

It's a tough call....

Don't sell short the fact that he averages almost a double-double per game! I think his rebounds are at like 9.8 per game, or something incredible like that.

Horford...no doubt about it...He is a good poised rookie...plays like he has been in the league for a few years...plus integral part of bringing the Hawks to the playoffs...

Not to bring up something from another topic and over hyping and raving fans causing people to dislike a player aka Kobe...if this could be true it would be of Durant...He was Mr. Hype...has his stupid commercial where he is taking off his jerseys and finally gets to the NBA...He throws up bricks and takes silly shots...Durant is not even the best rookie on that team in my opinion...Green has a better all around game at this point...Durant is a ball hog who shoots like mello...everytime he gets the ball...

Scola has been steady all season and would be second in my book behind Horford

This is a bad year for rookies. I'm not sure any of them will be perennial all stars. BTW, how many of those candidates have had a perfect game from the field? Chris Richard has....;)

I've seen a lot more of Scola than any of these guys because generally when I'm not watching the wolves I'm only turning in for interesting matchups... Seattle doesn't fit that bill. It is very hard to compare a guy on a rebulding team who has basically been given the keys to go out and learn how to be dominant in the NBA verus Horford and Scola who have very solid numbers as good role players.

If we were to redraft today and I was picking for the wolves I'd still pick Durant. I believe he will be a very versitle star unless these early years of chucking ruin him. I fully realize that is a different question than the point of this thread but I think that criticism of Durant is overly harsh. I'd be shocked it bullet point number 1 on Seattle todo for this year wasn't to let KD develop his game. When bullet point number 1 isn't winning you're gonna see some sloppy stuff and that isn't necessary an indictment on KD's game.

I like that commercial. Who else is going to take shots on Seattle? I don't even think they have a shooting guard on their roster.
