Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

I don't think he's going anywhere. What can the Lakers get in return for him? I don't think there are any good trades out there for the Lakers.

OK heres the deal. The Lakers trade Kobe to themselves. Think about it. Where else can they get as much for Kobe than Kobe himself. It should work in the numbers because Kobe makes the same as Kobe. Kobe wants to be traded, he's traded, the Lakers want a good player in return, they get a good player in return, The team should suffer no ill effects from a downgrade and there will be no learning curve. The only thing it will cost them is my commission.

The rumor said they'd consider taking \"less\" in return for Kobe. Not sure how accurate that is though.

I doubt they trade him before the season starts...

@ mmaland:
Good idea, but your proposal misses one point: Kobe is the only one who has an active \"no trade clause\" in his contract, which enables him to sink a trade to any team he would not like.

And you can be sure he'd veto a trade to the Lakers ;) !

@ 9Deuce:
Good point, but I fear there will never be a decent trade for L.A., nowhere, ever, no chance in hell!

L.A. needs a spectacular player, someone that fills the seats night in and night out. Who else is there on the market who sells tickets and jerseys in L.A. like Kobe does and who will be? I don't see that potential somewhere else in the NBA. Maybe LeBron would...or maybe Dwayne Wade. But could you imagine some of them would be traded for Kobe??

Another thing why L.A. will never find a fair offer: Kobe will veto any trade to a team when this team would be stripped of all it's talent to receive him. He wants to play for a team that is contender before AND after it has traded for him. So Kobe's power to veto the trade will prevent the Lakers from getting anything even near to full value, because there are only very few players thinkable to be of the same talent / marketability. And he won't be traded for them, either because he does not want to play for their teams and / or because those teams would be braindead to trade for Kobe anyways and this does not even consider the salaried that need to be matched up. So there will only be the package of expiring contracts, young players plus draft picks (which would never satify the Celebrities paying fortunes to watch the Lakers) out there for them, and Kobe's right to veto will prevent them from getting even all the good young or the best young players from that respective team.

Therefore, Chicago seems as the only realistic destiantion for Kobe, because they could still be a contender with Kobe onboard even after giving some of their young core away to the Lakers...which would still not solve their marketability problem, but that's the deal they got for hanging on Kobe...

You are right Sanyarin. Kobe is an enigma wrapped in an conundrum. The Bulls are probably the only suitors. I can't imangine, though, they would want to mess with what they already have going for them. They will be a second tier team this year and a first tier team next year if they play their cards right. Kobe would turn everything upside down as far as chemistry, game plan etc. The only upside would be ticket sales which the Bulls already do a good job of now. He's staying put.

If he went anywhere, I could see him going to Chicago. You know, fulfilling the whole \"I'm greater than Jordan\" legacy that he thinks he has developed.

Memo to Kobe: Jordan was a team player... Kobe your not. Jordan will be forever remembered as a wonderful basketball player who loved the game, and didnt have a huge ego. Kobe you will be remembered as the guy who ran off your team-mates for your ball hogging, and a ego only comparable to McCants. But you do have a sweet hook.

@ Mad Dog:
I don't know. I usually try to learn as little as possible about my idols (because usually this ruins my positive image of them), but in the case of Jordan, all I have heard is that he was a nuisance to play with and an extremely difficult person (like most geniuses are)...I am not saying that Kobe is a less or even equally annoying person than Jordan, but it would be wrong to consider Jordan a saint, either. He WAS a egomanic, narcistic ball hog for long strechtches of his career and he did not win a title until he learned that only getting your teammates involved by creating open shots through your shere presence on the court will win him the big one. But nothing would protect those from Jordan's wrath that wasted those open shots...I don't know if I would have wanted to play with him. There were many players who just could not stand the constant psychoterror, the first that comes to mind is Horace Grant, but there are a lot more. And just because Grant by far wasn't as dominant as a player as the Big Diesel, that doesn't make him less a human being and legit player.

But Jordan has learned - to some degree - , and if you remember the start of last season...Kobe has, too. But considering the awful supporting cast he had last season, he somehow felt the need to take matters over himself again when the season came to an close if he wanted to get into the playoffs...and I could not fault him for thinking that way. If I remember correctly...when things matters most, it was always the same for Jordan: The last possesion was his!

So I guess they are both very similar, except for the fact that - at least as I see things now - Jordan had this very special something that distinguishes the genius from the just-extremely-good. Kobe is still searching for that.
