After watching the games, it is obvious the Sonics need a solidifying veteran force at PG. They've got enough young horses, but no one to lead them. They have a problem with Delonte West/Earl Watson/Luke Ridnour as none of them seem to be able to take the reigns and run with them.

If the Sonics had someone like a Baron Davis or Jason Kidd it would make a world of difference. I'm sure there are others available, but Kidd and Davis seem to be mentioned in trades (Kidd) and pending Free Agency (Davis.)

I think either of those two PG's could get the Sonics to the playoffs (or very close) if they were willing to go to a young rebuilding team. I doubt they would want to do that though.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

In my opinion and all respect, having someone like Jason Kidd would make a world of a difference to nearly any team on this planet. Great PGs like Kidd don't grow on trees, and havin one or not often is the deciding issue between lottery or playoff team or even contender and champion.

In the case of the Sonics, they have all the time in the world to wait while Durant develops and they could quietly add another few lottery picks to their squad. Btw.: With so many teams clearly in rebuilding mode in the West (Portland, Minny, Seattle/Oklahoma), it is hard to see the East coming somewhere near the quality of the West over the next decade.

But anyways: I have - as usual - no first hand informtion how the PG-play of Ridnour and Watson looks, although I believe both to make good backups at least. But if the development of Durant goes as expected, in a few years they will have every FA in the country gladly joining this squad if they have not already added a great young PG via the draft (like next year, for example). So I don not see the urge for them to waste their assets on a proven PG right now. Durant just is not there yet and the management has shown they are willing to wait by trading Allen and letting Lewis leave via FA. Why now trying to force things all of a sudden, especially if you are abandoning the city anyways?

A last thought: With a Superstar in the making with Durant, I do not think that a type of player like Baron Davis was the right fit with the Sonics. They need a pure distributor, not a shoot first, pass second type enforcer like Davis.

Good point, I don't know what I was thinking.

I guess I was just thinking if they had a good PG right now, they could maybe make the playoffs this season. I guess it doesn't really matter though, because as you pointed out there is no rush. Just let Durant and the other young guys develop and they should be able to get a competent PG at some point.
