Shame on me, I did not read the article brewerforROY posted (again, things are very busy at my work and I don't have much time), but did'nt Isiah said this was not the first time such a thing happened?

As far as I understood it from reading the coverage on SI.com, Marbury always gets somehow gloomy or whatever in November (or anytime when his playing time is reduced) and checks out for a few days, but comes back as a (more or less) good soldier to play his role...

And just like the last times, he is expected and will be welcomed back. Besides, I have to admit that I have always thought of Marbury being more of a fantastic sixth man than a true starter. As many times as he has proved to have problems making the people around him better, I think he really flourishes in a role much like Jason Terry (who is a similar type of player) now plays for the Mavs. I can't estimate how long Marbury's ego would hold up, but if he could buy in to this idea, he could be really successful in this role...of course, he would probably also have to take a pay cut, so this will never happen.

If Marbury somehow gets bought out by the Knicks, I could totally see the Lakers signing him in a heartbeat to pair with Kobe.

DaddyWell, I have seen his interviews and followed his career somehow, but - maybe because I am no natural speaker - compared to many of the other nutcases that I have seen on TV (especially in the USA but also here in Europe) and that sometimes even occupy important positions in politics, economics and society...he does not seem overly whack to me. Sure, he is a crackbrained idiot, but - as much as I can judge this from afar - he is a much different kind of idiot as Ron Artest, for instance.

In my humble opinion, Marbury's bigger problem / downside is his ego. One can hold that this is only indication of how out of mind he is, but in that case, we would share nearly the same opinion anyways, so I won't cover that now. But assumed this were two different issues, I believe when he could get his ego under control and accept a role, not as a leader, because he never was and never will elevate the people around him, but as a performer from the bench, maybe he would be satisfied with finally achieving something and that could get him a little more pacified with himself and the people around him.

I admit that I might be overly optimistic, but I believe that everything a person seeks and needs to find inner peace is a place where he belongs, where he can be successful and where he is respected and valued for what he does. Marbury is preventing himself from finding this place, that is why I talk hypothetically...


But I am at least calmed down by finding out that I am not the only crazy person with widely optimistic and philanthropistic beliefs. Not that anything professional sports journalists say or write should be taken too serious, because they are often not smarter than me or you...they sometimes only have access to better information than we do...but having read just minutes ago that SI.com's Ian Thomas shares my opions about Marbury is somehow calming me. At least I do not look like the \"dopey German with no understanding of the NBA\" once more, who utters completely harebrained theories in this forum .

Whatever happens, I just hope beyond all hope that the Knicks don't buy him out and he heads up to Boston. That would completely ruin the KG as a Celtic experience for me. Idiot Marbury is the catalyst that started the Wolves' struggles for the past 10+ years. If he ended up going to Boston and \"reuniting\" (a.k.a. riding KG's coattails to a title) I would vomit.

Although given his track record, the more likely scenario is that he goes to Boston and the Celtics fail to make the playoffs. Either way, the experience is destroyed.

Please don't let that happen!

Just reading ESPN.com's Daily Dime, I'll discover that Chris Broussard shares my opinion on marbury as well.


Again: This proves NOTHING, especially not who is right or wrong on Marbury, because probably, he himself does not even have an understanding of what's going on inside of him. But at least it shows that I am not alone !


Btw.: I also liked that David Thorpe put Yi Jilian above Kevin Durant in his Rookie Ratings in that Daily Dime. With Oden out, I am suprised that they did not hand Durant the ROY-Trophy already. Everybody seems so content that he will win it, that he had to break both of his legs and his arm the next game to...awh no, he'll win it anyways.

But there are other good young players out there and it is highly unfair to not even consider them when talking about possible (!) ROY winners.
