I'm glad they decided to translate the \"gulrp, gulrp\" when he took a drink of Gatorade. Because as everyone knows, we in North America make completely different noises when drinking than they do in Europe.

I counted 10 f-bombs, 5 c-words, and 5 s-words. Not bad for roughly 50 seconds...I actually found the video hilarious until the comment about the ref's daughter. That was completely out of line. I agree with Derok's points...I also thought the translation was fake at first.

I thought it was real from my first time because I'm a sucker like that, and I really enjoy it when some athletes make complete asses out of themselves. I enjoyed it for the most part until he went off about his daughter... honestly, that's completely out of line.

I think he should get an additional punishment from the NBA. Nothing major, but just a punishment so that he (and others) are aware that stuff like this isn't acceptable... regardless of where it takes place.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Well, then I guess I am the minority here, thinking that Darko should get fined his pants of, and even if it was just for being such an immature moron...but, at least in my opinion, NOT BY THE NBA!

I know that I am getting a little repetetive, but I'll be saying this for the last time ;) : Only one sports authority should have the power to issue fines for the same incident to guarantee legal certainty and fairness both towards the player as to the different organisations.

True... but I am pretty sure that they are clauses in every player's contract that state they can be fined and punished for things like these. The clauses are broad and sweeping, allowing for basically anything that casts a negative light on the player and/or team to be punishable. In some rare instances, the contract can be terminated.

@ College Wolf
That would put things in a little different light. Just when I said I was fine with the Grizz issuing whatever penalty they like on Darko, I would be fine if a penalty by the NBA was based on the sort of contractual clause rather, making this more of a question of civil law but of sports authority, which should in this case only allow the FIBA to fine Darko.

But it would be highly surprising to me to learn that a player is bound by contracts not only with his franchise, but also with the NBA. But maybe that would then be a clause in his contract with the Grizz? I have never thought about that possibility...mostly because the way sport is organized in Europe is so much different from the way you do in in the USA. I guess that is where most of the differences in our opinions stem from: We do have a completely differing understanding of the way sports are / should be organised ;) !

From what I'm reading, I think you've pretty much got it figured out. It's not like they are seperate contracts per se, but by signing a contract with a team, that basically binds a player to the NBA and it's regulations/punishments/rules/etc as well. It's one and all the same thing. I can see where you are coming from in regards to who the players are accountable too, but whether any of us agree with it or not, that's just the way it is.

It's so much different than football in Europe because players are transferring among leagues and teams so often. However, it's just the NBA in North America. (Unless a player wants to go play in a faaaaar lesser basketball league, where he wouldn't make anywhere remotely as much money.)

Lastly, I'm glad you made your way to our friendly forums, because it is really interesting to get such unique opinions and general outlook on issues like this!

Agreed.............. I think we are all glad that you made your way here. You provide arguements that would probably never come up otherwise. CW and I love discussions like this as we find ourselves in plenty of them. It's fun and that is why we are here.

I wholeheartedly second that. :)

@ College Wolf and NBA contracts:
Thank you very much for making that point clear. Well, in that case - like I said before - a fine to Darko by the NBA would be ok. Although I would still do not think it would be a good idea to issue a fine because of the reasons I named, but it would be ok nontheless.

@ CW & MWithers:
Thank you very much for your kind words  ! I do feel welcome here and enjoy discussing such topics with interesting people as well, especially when they come from a slightly different sports background.
