Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Entertaining roundtable. Here is my comment:

I am an NBA guy all the way. All the way. However, there are 2 things I really like about the NCAA.

1 - The officiating. The NCAA game features so much more contact, and I feel that is the way the game should be played. I get infuriated a few times per NBA game at the ticky tack foul calls and the referees overusing their whistles. I like to see good, physical defense get rewarded, not punished. The NCAA does this, the NBA does not.

2 - The atmosphere. Many college crowds are just awesome. As a general rule, the typical college crowd is a lot more engaged and animated than the typical NBA crowd, which makes for a fun and rabid vibe.

Otherwise, the NBA is far superior.

True, but I think the NBA playoffs make up for the regular season. I'd say that on average a typical NBA playoff game blows away a typical NCAA game, even counting March Madness.

I find the NCAA officiating the worst part of the game. A very high percentage of the upsets I see stem from more athletic good teams having their athleticism stolen by bad officiating. High flyers are ALWAYS getting charge calls when the defender wasn't even in their path or set until they are already in the air.

The ticky-tac fouls on the perimeter in the NBA are annoying but they serve a purpose. Sometimes you see NCAA teams constantly lightly fouling on the outside and it completely kills the opposing offense and basically makes the game unwatchable. If players can't dribble without hands on their wrists they can't make great plays.

I get what both of you are saying. I too like that they allow players to be physical, but on the other hand, the college refs are probably even worse and more inconsistent than the infamous NBA refs.

I love basketball, but ugh, the NCAA and the NBA are just so flawed in so many ways. It's hard to be a fan of either of them as a whole.
