I haven't read this yet, but some guy makes the case for Grizzlies management in this holdout:

Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Excellent read. I disagree with what Memphis is doing but it is a good piece.

Yep, it's worth one's time to read. I can't agree with Memphis doing that though, especially since he's a lottery pick. The money is trivial, and it's a gigantic slap to Henry's face.

Maybe you can try doing that after some other team has done it successfully with a higher pick, but I would NOT want to be the team that sets this precedent.

Memphis getting Trade offers

Pssst, Memphis. Wayne Ellington is awesome. Take a look at this Final Four and Summer League footage. He rules. Oh and here is a photo of Henry on the bench during the Kansas loss.

BUT us kindly Wolves will take him off your hands out of the kindness of our hearts. If we can't be good we want some midwestern/small market team to win half their games.

Nice. I bet Henry wants to get out of Memphis sooooooooooooooo bad. And he hasn't even played for them yet!

How about we offer them Ellington and a future pick for Henry and Acie Law OR Darrell Arthur (help them dump salary since they can't afford to pay Henry an extra 300K.)

I'd do that.

Actually, if Memphis really wants to dump salary... we can just give them a future pick for Henry + a small bad contract like Law or Arthur.

They don't know that Acie Law is a bad contract yet ;) I also wouldn't give a future 1st round pick up because of how tough minutes will be to come by next year.

I don't think this is about paying a 1st round pick X amount of dollars. It is about using his contract as a motivator.

I didn't mean one of our picks... but I should have specified. I was thinking the future first owed to us from Utah or Memphis (both via Utah in Big Al trade.)

True, maybe it's not entirely about saving money... but then why would they do it? I guess its maybe motivational, but its entirely stupid. Bottom line, we can save them some money. And its not like their financial situation is rosey... not with giving Gay that huge extension. And I am reading they want(ed) to resign Zach Randolph as well?

I'd give up the Memphis or Utah pick in a heartbeat. Memphis's dealing of Henry likely hinges on if they've accepted the truth about Mayo being a SG. If you assume he is than Henry is 3rd on their depth chart behind Mayo and Tony Allen.

Yeah, Mayo will not play PG and they have faith in Conley anyways.

I think they'd probably do the offer I suggested? I know I surely would.

Ellington + Utahs Pick for Xavier is a good deal if Memphis isn't that enthused about Henry. Generally teams with real front offices think their lottery picks are the next great thing. At this stage in the game Memphis won't get a better offer than that.
