The rule says you can't accept tickets from a sports organization. Carmelo Anthony is not a sports organization. Also there's no way that Anthony could be using the tickets as a bribe. OJ isn't a free agent who can just sign with the Nuggets. He's going to get drafted by a lottery team and have to play for them. Where's the hidden agenda or bribe there?
If OJ Mayo's random friend got him a free ticket to a game, is that a violation? I don't think so. How is Carmelo Anthony anything more than a friend here?
I know these guys have to be careful because there are so many rules to violoate, especially when you're so high-profile. But it also seems that the NCAA is so stringent on its rules, almost to the point of sometimes being unreasonable. Can we really expect OJ to stop living his life out of fear of breaking some unknown rule?
I hardly see this being on the same level as receiving a car from a booster.
You make good points, and I do agree that the NCAA is too stringent.
Still, NBADraft.net has Mayo ranked #10 overall right now. Combine that with his \"issues\" and I don't want the Wolves taking him if we have a high lottery pick.
