Check it out. Jeremy from Pickaxe and Roll hosts the fifth edition.

Here's my votes and comments:

MVP

10 – Kevin Garnett: Hello Mr. Garnett, meet Mr. MVP Trophy.

9 – Lebron James: The only way Lebron overtakes KG as the lead dog in the MVP race is if the Celtics lose their position as the best record in the East, or if Lebron’s stats become otherworldly… aka he’d need to average a Triple-Double on the season.

8 – Dwight Howard: Has had only one 20 point 20 rebound game since the last edition of the Rankings. You know someone is good when people wonder why he only has one 20-20 game every two weeks.

7 – Allen Iverson: I wonder what it would be like if Iverson and KG were both on the Wolves? Would we be 35-7 this season instead of 7-35? Oh well… good thing we didn’t trade Randy Foye for AI last season. [/sarcasm]

6 – Chris Paul: Don’t look now but New Orleans has the best record in the Western Conference. Plain and simple, the reason is purely CP3.

5 – Kobe Bryant: Only 4 losses (Boston, Phoenix, San Antonio, and Dallas) in their last 16 games! Andrew Bynum went down and the team didn’t miss a beat, largely thanks to Kobe and his all-around excellence. Kobe’s had two straight games of 10+ rebounds, mostly because Kwame Brown couldn’t get 7 boards in a lumberyard.

4 - Carlos Boozer: Imagine if he were still playing with Lebron...

3 – Baron Davis: Even if he wasn’t putting up the colossal stats that he is (22 ppg, 5 rpg, 8 apg), his beard alone would have gotten him at least 10th on the list.

2 – Al Jefferson: Best post moves in the league, probably deserves to make the All-Star game but won’t, is a classy young guy, blah blah blah no one else ever votes for him anyways.

1 – Chris “Caveman” Kaman: I once heard that Kaman was born with three testicals and lost them all in a boyhood fishing accident. It doesn’t even matter what I put as a comment for him, because he’ll never get enough votes to make the Top 10! Woe is me.

ROY

5 – Kevin Durant: Despite the fact that he puts up almost twice as many shots as any other rookie, does anyone else deserve to be in this spot?

4 - Al Horford: Alfred has been on a roll lately, and is easily the best rebounder in the rookie class. If they could just convert him to point guard the Hawks would really be in business.

3 – Juan Carlos Navarro: He’s exploded for 26, 21, and 21 points since the last edition of the Rankings. He’s leading all rookies in 3PT % and is second to Durant in points per game.

2 - Al Thornton: He’s been on fire when he notches more than 25 minutes per game. When people look back upon this class, he might eventually be considered one of the ‘Steals of the Draft.’

1 – Mike Conley: Has been playing pretty well since returning from his injury. Anything that makes Damon Stoudamire expendable can’t be a bad thing.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

I always love reading these. Both your comments and the actual pooled rankings. Good stuff. It is really tough this year but I think if you put a gun to my head right now I would go:

1. LeBron
2. Kobe
3. KG
4. CPaul
5. Nash or DHo

Thanks, glad someone reads these at least.

My thought is, that as long as the Celtics maintain the #1 record in the entire NBA, KG has got to be the front runner for MVP... pretty much regardless of stats. Still, he averages almost 20 and 10 which is pretty dang good. He just does so much for that team on both offense and defense, I'd say more so than most other MVP candidates.

IF the Celtics don't have the #1 record in the NBA, then my rankings look something like this:

1) Lebron
2) CP3
3) Kobe
4) KG
5) DHo
