Few things pain me more than watching St. Paul change for the worse as the rec centers close, are demolished, and/or are changed into endeavors that don't include kids' sports. It's been no different during my NYC travels over the past few years. Places I hooped growing up in the Twin Cities are gone. Places I marveled at in NYC are decaying.
No wonder kids do drugs, crime, and get into trouble. If I had nowhere to play hoops I'd beat up other kids and rob stores, too.
Lebron and Sprite are trying to attack that. I'm much more likely to drink Sprite when I know their corporate social responsibility includes the revitalization of communities in a way that I deem crucial. Likewise, I'm much more likely to soften my Lebron hate if he figures life out, shuts up, and makes the world better.
My only gripe is that Lebron shouldn't be doing the choosing.
