Check it out. Matt from
Hardwood Paroxysm hosts the sixth edition.
For the record, Matt from Hardwood Paroxysm bribed \"the first person to vote for Duhon\" with treats...
Here's my comments and votes:
MVP:
10 – Lebron James: I thought Oscar Robinson had already retired. Lebron is doing his best in imitation, averaging 8 boards and 7 assists to go along with his league leading 30 points per game. The scariest thing is that he’s younger than me, being only 23 years old. I can now officially give up my dreams for ever playing in the NBA.
9 – Kevin Garnett: My MVP leader all season long, he loses his spot since he hasn’t actually played a game since the last edition of the rankings. With the stats Lebron is putting up, KG is going to need to step his game up when he gets back, or the Celtics need to end the season with the best record in the league to allow KG any chance at finishing #1 for MVP.
8 – Chris Paul: I don’t understand why he doesn’t get more love? Is it because he’s so short? Because he doesn’t dunk? Because on any given night only 9,000 people can watch a Hornet’s game? He’s only one of the best point guards in the league, on one of the best teams in the league. Without him, the Hornets would be like a Ferrari with no gas.
7 – Kobe Bryant: Pau Gasol – Kwame Brown + Rejuvenated Kobe Bryant = Title Contenders. Oh yeah, and he averages 28 points per game, with the potential to go off for 50 points on any given night.
6 – Dwight Howard: His stats are slowly declining, as teams have started figuring out the Magic. It’s becoming more apparent that D-Ho is a one trick pony (so to speak), in comparison to the other top MVP candidates. At least Howard is in the MVP discussion, which is more than ZaZa Pachulia can say.
5 – Tim Duncan: Every time I do my rankings, I try to think of specific reasons as to why I SHOULD leave Duncan off the list. He doesn’t dominate. He doesn’t score enough. He doesn’t rebound enough. His defense is only “really good” instead of “great.” Well, no longer will my conscience allow me to slight him. He’s carrying the team in Parker’s absence, and his leadership and resurgent stats can no longer be ignored.
4 – Baron Davis: His beard alone puts him in the Top 10. 22 ppg, 8 apg, and 5 rpg lands him at number 6.
3 – Dirk Nowitzki: The fact that his team is winning (second best record in the West, 7-3 in the last 10 games), helps propel him up the standings a bit. However, he does have 7 double-doubles in his last 10 games as well. If he wasn’t so ugly I would have put him above Baron Davis.
2 – Big Al Jefferson: I don’t know how he isn’t the MVP? He is the greatest player in the league, possibly one of the greatest players in the history of the game. Do you see him undress his opposition on a nightly basis? Have you seen his emotion lately? The league should be very afraid.
1 – Chris Duhon: If you haven’t seen this young man play, you are doing yourself a disservice. Let me just say, he is the future at the Point Guard position in this league. On February 7th, against the great Golden State Warriors, he dropped a career high 34 points and had 9 assists. Baron Davis didn’t do that. Kirk Heinrich can’t do that either. No one can… except Chris Duhon! He’s only had 0 points in a game 3 times this season… which is pretty darn good. I mean, look at all the zero point games that Victor Khryapa was racking up! His field goal percentage is 36.6%, which is 1.2 percentage points higher than Larry Hughes… and only at a fraction of the cost!
ROY:
5 – Kevin Durant: All season long he has been shooting like his butt’s on fire (and not in a good way.) However, since the last edition of the Rankings, he has been shooting better than his 40% season average (other than the stinker of a game on Friday night in which he went 2 for 12 from the field.) The reason he’s still in first is simply that no other rookies stand out enough this season to challenge him for the top spot.
4 - Al Horford: Durant’s only competition for the top spot. He’s averaging close to a double-double per game at 9.2 points and 9.9 rebounds. If he steps his game up a bit, and if the Hawks make the playoffs, I could see him maybe stealing the award from Durant.
3 – Juan Carlos Navarro: Earlier in the season he was getting less court time than Roger Clemens. Since the last edition, he’s played 33, 33, 32, 24, and 26 minutes per game. Yeah, his field goal percentage has been down, but Kevin Durant leads this thing every two weeks and he’s only shooting 40% on the season.
2 – Luis Scola: Plays less than 30 minutes per game, but is contributing with around 10 points and 5 rebounds per game. Not bad at all.
1 – Corey Brewer: Because no one else has been giving Turbo any shoutouts this season.
