Right now it looks like there will be one team in the west that will be A) good enough to win the east and

not good enough to make the playoffs in the west
Here is how I'd categorize them:
In:
LA Lakers 39 17 .696
San Antonio 37 17 .685
New Orleans 37 17 .685
Utah 36 20 .643
Likely in but the wrong injury or slump could change things:
Phoenix 38 18 .679
Dallas 37 19 .661
Dog Fight:
Houston 36 20 .643
Golden State 33 22 .600
Denver 33 22 .600
If I were ranking the likely hood of who is out in that last category (from least likely to most likely out)
1. GS - This team has been solid to finish the season for a few years now. The only reservation here is that they are one Baron Davis back flare up from real trouble.
2. Denver - This team can lose AI or Carmelo for a few games against the right opponents and not be in bad shape. That said... for some reason when I see this team play I'm underwhelmed. I don't like the AI and Carmelo taking turns on offense.
3. Houston - They have a two game lead right now but they are also on a hot streak. That says to me they are due for some off nights and a tougher patch in the schedule. They also have to worry about T Mac's back.
When I was ordering those teams I think I had each team in each position at one point. All of them are too good to be out of the playoffs. My dark horse for a NY Mets style collapse is Dallas. They just don't look good. And Bill Simmions had a lot of good reasons for why Kidd won't be at his best with that club.
