Ick...Kfan just spent all morning on this. Sludge was going crazy! This could turn out poorly...

Got a couple of meetings/presentations this morning. I’m in between meetings so I have nothing to do and decided to ponder the Brett Favre signing. I put together my thoughts in a speech outline format so that you could understand my thoughts. It turned out to be more than I thought, but it only took me a couple minutes.

I’m truly mixed on the whole deal. I think he’ll help in the short term, but hurt in the long run. Also, I don’t see them as a lock for the Super Bowl, in fact, they might not even be a lock for NFC Central winners. :


1. He will help the Vikings a lot, but that can lead to a couple things:
a. The Vikings will be a top 5 team
1. Probably get to the Conference or Division Championship round of the playoffs or beyond
2. Zygi will re-sign chilly thus extending his miserable coaching career.
b. He’s hurt and he hasn’t worked out this offseason (supposedly).

2. He is old and not what he was a few years ago.
3. The Jets didn’t want him back because of the injury.
c. What about 2010?
1. See Star Tribune classifieds for Professional QB.
2. Who will be the signal caller in 2010 and beyond?


2. Chilly as a coach:
a. See 1.a.2.
b. Supposed great developer of QBs
1. Is he now admitting (finally) he failed at the T-Jack project?
c. Why keep T-Jack around?
1. Sage is a better back-up so cut T-Jack
2. Chilly can’t because that was his guy and he gave up a couple draft picks to move on him (and proclaimed him the next Johnny U).
d. Can he call a complete game with a full arsenal in his offense?

2. See Chester Taylor and AP28s stats from last year
3. See the left side of the o-line
4. See 5 yard outs on 3rd and 9.

3. Why does Brett Favre want to play with the Vikings?
a. A chance to leave on top.
1. Not buying it, to many people use this as a reason to keep playing.
b. Revenge on the Packers.
1. They have Aaron Rodgers because Brett threatened to retire so many times.
a. Can’t blame them.
2. The Packers should be mad at Brett
a. How many retirement threats do they have to weather.
3. He wants to prove something to Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson
a. They were honest with him.
b. He retired first and then after he retired they moved on.
c. They want to get a return on their investment in Aaron Rodgers


4. Conclusion:
a. Vikings should have gotten a future QB this year or last year or the year before last
1. Plan ahead.
b. The Vikings had an opportunity to fire Chilly after last year and promote Leslie Frasier.

c. They’ll be in L.A. (or elsewhere) in 5 years
1. The State of Minnesota will not pay for a stadium
2. Minnesotans aren’t idiots, they won’t build a stadium so that the owner can develop the property around it to make zillions
d. Can they beat the Packers?
1. The Pack had a top 5 offense, but a bottom five defense.
2. The defense improved
