The NFL buckled and now the Pats/Giants Saturday game will be simulcast on CBS and NBC.

Not a big deal for me as I have DirecTV and the NFL Network, but I thought I should let you guys know so you can watch my team make NFL regular season history!

I saw that late last night on Sportscenter Bottomline. That's crazy... do you have any more details? Did CBS and NBC have to pay anything? What exactly happened?

I don't pay for any extra channels on DirectTV, but I still get the NFL Network? Is that how it is for every DirectTV subscriber? Either way, I'm down with it.
Question: "Hey Antoine Walker, why do you shoot so many 3's?"

Answer: "Because there are no 4's."

Basically the some higher ups in the U.S. government threatened to take back the NFL's anti-trust exemption or something to that effect if they didn't broadcast the game. I don't really understand it all, but my guess is that the NFL basically holds some sort of monopoly and the government isn't calling them on it, but they were viewing this as an abuse of that power. Like I said, I don't get it.

I'm sure CBS and NBC are giving the league something for the game.

I do think all DirecTV customers get NFL network, it's just the big cable companies like Comcast and Time Warner that either want to charge viewers extra or get it at a lower cost from the NFL. The NFL doesn't want people to pay extra and they want to charge the higher price. So they were in a standstill, and 60% of the country or something like that gets their TV from those companies.

Gotcha, thanks dude.

Your analysis is pretty consistent with all the stuff I've read. I don't really understand it too well since I haven't done too much research... and honestly, I don't care all that much.

Thanks though. At least the whole nation will now be able to watch the Pats go 16-0 this weekend.

So if you are a congressman and you don't want to pay the 7 bucks a month for the sports package that gets you the NFL Network you have two options...

A] Go to a bar and watch the game
B] Threaten an anti-trust law suit against the NFL and get them to play their game on not one but two free channels.
