The only thing worse is what these 2nd world countries do for the World Cup. The requirements are something like 3-5 stadiums that hold 70k people. South Africa had rugby which could generate attendance in the 30k range. So now they have two of these monster stadiums right next to each other and there is no way they can really even use one of them.
It'll be even worse in Qatar.
America and Europe can do some upgrades to existing stadiums and/or extensively use new facilities so it isn't quit as wasteful.
Yeah, epically wasteful. And let's not even get started about the Olympics...
