I'll add that Palmer has had one injury plagued season. Otherwise the guy has played 16 games.

As was noted, it sounds like Frasier is committed to going swinging for the fences on a young QB. Reading between the lines says that the defense has aged and needs to be retooled before making another legitimate run. If you draft a QB expectations for the next two years are immediately lowered. Then if they manage not to suck Frasier looks like a genius.

Waste more of AP's prime...

I wasn't aware about his contract, didn't think it's THAT bad.

I'm not buying a rookie starter idea. As CW pointed out - this is Peterson's prime. We still have solid D players like Kev Williams (Pat is retiring or not?), Jared Allen, EJ Henderson or Antoine Winfield. There are solid vets available like Orton, Palmer, Young... hell, lets call McNabb solid. We are not getting any younger, the enxt two years with a solid QB we could do mess in the NFC. THEN we can think of rebuilding. Sure, draft whichever QB falls out of the 1st round in the 2nd and groom him under a vet. 1st round we absolutely have to go for CB or OL. CB preferably, Prince Amukamara. Unless we get Nnamdi, lol.

Waste more of everyone's prime, time and everything else if you don't have a stud QB.

If you get the right guy, time isn't wasted.

That said getting Orton for a 4th round pick is what I'll be rooting for. He is a young vet who could start for a years if he is good enough. I'd rather rebuild than go with McNabb. He couldn't put good teams over the top in his prime. The Phili castoff days are over.

The more I think about it, the more I am ok with Orton. He'd be solid on our veteran squad.

Palmer makes too much. I'd take him if his deal got cancelled and we could give him a new, much smaller one. But that won't happen.

McNabb is too old/washed up.

Rookies/Joe Webb/Tavaris just won't cut it.

We need someone like Orton.

Agreed. I worry about the "don't waste AP's prime" idea because we all saw what happened with KG. When teams think going into every year that it is a panic to capitalize NOW it screws them NOW and the FUTURE.

Whoever this team starts next year, I want the FO to expect that guy to be the starter 4 years from now. Obviously they can be wrong but when you hedge your bets (Flynn) everyone loses.

Carson Palmer and Culpepper both had 3 good seasons. Both had a devastating knee injury. Both majorly sucked afterwards. Palmer isn't going to miraculously resurrect his career. He's one of the worst starting QBs in the league.

I do not concur. Not even close.

Ok now that I look there are some teams that have really bad Qbs but he's definitely in the bottom 10.

Teams that have worse QB(s)

Miami
Cleveland
Washington
Carolina
Arizona
Vikings
Jets

Teams that could go either way

San Fran
Oakland
Seattle

And so when you factor in his massive salary, there is no point in paying all that money to a bottom 10 QB even if he is better than what we have.

I've said this entire time I wouldn't take him because of his salary, otherwise he could be good for us.

More teams that are worse:

Buffalo
Oakland (they are definitely worse)
San Fran (for sure worse)
Seattle (You'd rather have Hasselback??? Never.)
Detroit (Only non-Stafford, and who knows if he'll ever be healthy?)
Tennessee (Kerry Collins? No thanks.)
Denver (Teebow??????)

Listing off horrible QB's doesn't necessarily sell me on Palmer.

Splitting hairs note. Palmer isn't clearly better than Hasselbeck.

Hasselbeck had like a career game vs the Saints in the playoffs. Other than that, he's been brutal the past few seasons. This year he had 3,001 yards, 12 TD's, and 17 INT's!

Two years ago: 3029 yards, 17 TD's, and 17 INT's.

And then three seasons ago he only played 7 games and had 5 TD's and 10 INT's. On pace for like 11 TD's and 22 INT's there.

He is also on a team with worse RB's and WR's.

Debateable. Cincy has been one of the most dysfunctionable teams in the league for decades.

Hasselbeck is not claerly worse than Palmer are you kidding me. He's been hurt all year and his offense is terrible. His receivers can't even catch the damn ball.

Jason Campbell and Alex Smith on par with Palmer and have better stats.

Fitzpatrick and Orton are better than Palmer.

Stafford is better, and even Shaun Hill is about equal.

Vince Young...way better. 10 TDs, 3 INTs. Kerry Collins had a better season than Palmer.

Wow the Wolves really have to be in a bad place for us to go back and forth on Tim Hasselbeck and Carson Palmer of all people.
