It is unquestionably the biggest game in Timberwolves history: Game 7 versus the Kings in the 2004 playoffs.  Although KG’s performance that night is now a source of legend in the Twin Cities, the days leading up to that game were characterized by many questioning Kevin Garnett’s manhood, toughness, and ability to win. Kevin Garnett’s incredible TNT interview during the 2005 All-Star Break revealed a side that most of his fans had never seen.  It was a side of him that made us more proud than ever before to call him our hero.  After watching the leader of our team break down in tears over the state of the franchise, I had to do my small part to let KG know how much he means to this team and how deep my respect is for him.  To this day, I don’t know if Kevin has ever read this letter, but I know that many of his fans have. And if nothing else, it’s stood as a testament to the character of this team’s leader and the love that his fans have for him.  “My Letter to Kevin Garnett” is #3 of my Top 10 favorite Wolves articles.

It was a night that no Timberwolves fan will ever forget.  The Timberwolves, leading their playoff series with the Denver Nuggets 3-1, were poised to break out of the first-round after seven years of failure.  In my last article before that momentous occasion, I took a moment to look back at all the Wolves had endured.  This piece is #2 of my Top 10 Favorite Timberwolves Articles.

Down 3-1 in the Western Conference Finals, the Timberwolves were a game away from elimination and the end of the best season in franchise history.  Our hopes for a championship were dangling by a thread as the odds continued to mount against us.  So I wrote this piece as an encouragement for my fellow fans and the players to keep believing.  Of course the Wolves ultimately fell and our title dreams came to an end.  But the one thing that didn’t was our hope that one day we’d get to see Kevin Garnett hoist that trophy into the air.

Over the years, I’ve managed to make a large number of analogies to the Timberwolves.  There have been references to movies like Rocky IV, The Shawshank Redemption, and even Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  I’ve related the Wolves to songs from U2 and Dave Matthews Band.  But for the first time, I’m going to put my med-school education to use and make a medical analogy to sum up the Wolves current situation.  Because the 2006-2007 Minnesota Timberwolves share astounding similarities with atrial fibrillation.

Don’t look now, but the Minnesota Timberwolves are undefeated since the return of the old leather ball and in 2007!  We’ll see how long that streak holds up, but the Wolves current 4-game winning streak, which featured 3 consective ovetime victories, has catapulted the team into the playoff picture.  The Wolves are currently 2nd in the Northwest Division and 7th in the West.  If they can keep this level of play up, the playoffs are a guarantee, and a nice seed wouldn’t be out of the question.

Sam Cassell Returns to Minnesota Tonight

Sam Cassell just may be the most controversial player in Timberwolves history.  That’s saying a lot considering we’ve had run-ins with the likes of J.R. Rider, Stephon Marbury, Latrell Sprewell, and most recently, Eddie Griffin.  What separates Sam Cassell from those other “bad dudes” is that he has a small following who happen to love him.
